I don't know if this idea has allready been proposed, but the Dunk Contest could be made much more exciting if a defender was put on the court. I'm not talking about having guys like Payton or Mutombo out there(although, having a shot blocker might add an element of danger and/or excitement), but send guys like Matt Maloney and Kornell David on the floor to try to stop the dunks. It would certainly separate the men from the boys, and the dunks would look waaaaay cooler...

Im not down with that...the dunk contest is pretty exciting alreay and an on the court defender would stiffle osme of the creativity. The idea is a good one for the 3 point contest, though. HAve a defender with their hand up just inside the 3 point line, or running at them up to the 3 point line...mix it up, etc,etc

Maybe for one round or something, but the dunk contest is about creativity, hang time, and originality. Putting a defender out there would be what we see through the regular season.

Now a moving rim.....that would be cool!!!

Possible risk of injury for the dunker and/or defender.

Who wants to be posterized? No volunteers for that job.

    Bottom line, it won't happen.

They could use a stuffed dummy as a defender and just leave it near the basket. The dunker would have to go around the dummy, any contact would result in a DQ. Of course going with Matt Maloney doesn't sound like a bad idea either [IMG]

They could put Gary Coleman out there to defend against the dunks [IMG]

This lineup would definitely liven up the dunk contest.

    Carter
    Kobe
    Rider
    Francis
    etc, etc,
