Yeah, it would be nice we we could get a shooting guard that can... um, shoot.

If Wesley is the one who goes I wouldn't mind seeing a gamble on Mike Dunleavy. He'll be a restricted FA a year after so if it doesn't pan out Rox don't lose out too much. GS are stacked with large & long contracts no way they resign him.

    Sura/James/Head, Tracy/Barry, Dunleavy/Rybo, JHo/Tradee, Yao/Deke

    Davis/Fisher/Ellis, J-Rich/Wesley, Pietrus, Murphy/Taft, Foyle/Diogu

GS would look stacked and Rox still one trade away.

I'd rather keep Wesley any day than Sura. At least Wesley can shoot. And you guys are crazy if you think they have any intention on getting rid of Mike James. The rockets wanted this guy bad and then they finally got him and he came in and performed big time for us. Sure he had a few problems in the playoffs and Tmac had to run the point, but I don't let a few bad games outweigh all the good he did for us up until that point. Mike James isn't going anywhere and i'd bet good money on that. He is a solid point guard who can also shoot and play a little bit of defense.

Yeah but Wesley's age, expiring contract, and being the most tradeable (most important) going by the minutes jvg trusted him with doesn't help his cause for staying in houston.

Not sure. If you're assuming all those things about Sura, then is it safe to assume Wesley also stays and is healthy? If that's the case, no way JVG replaces Wesley in the starting lineup with Sura. Wesley's a much better defender, and doesn't have nearly the same health question-marks.

Mike James to me is your prototypical spark plug, instant energy, 6th man type of guy. I don't see him moving to the starting lineup unless there's an injury requiring it. I think a more likely scenario would be Head starting and being relied on to bring the ball up, feed the post and get open on the outside (ala Kenny Smith & to a lesser extent Matt Maloney).

Quite an interesting off-season situation we have in our backcourt. I see Barry staying for basically the league minimum. Other than that, I dunno what the heck we plan to do with Sura, Wesley and Mike James, especially after drafting Head.

If his father's moronic draft ideas are any indication of this kid's bball IQ, after last night, I don't want him. The Clippers remain the biggest morons in the world.

Right, we need a shooting guard who can shoot and also a power forward who actually has power. :)

I like the idea of Sura to SG, but he would be fine at the PG slot. The most important thing to my mind is that we limit his regular season minutes so that his post season contributions are better. He was key for us and could be in the post season, but only if he is on the court!

I'm sure we'll get a new starting PG in trade or in FA. I can't imagine us depending on Sura this next year. I assume it will be one of Daniels, Duhon, Gordon, Hinrich, Stoudamire, Van Exel, Miller, Payton, Fisher or Watson, any of which would be an improvement.

Sura is one of the worst shooters on the team, he couldn't play SG, he couldn't guard half of the SG's in the league, injury prone and a bad shooter, get rid of him please...

i think the MLE might go to AD. JVG tried to get him as a FA before his first season started here. we lost out on his to seattle and signed pike and griff. last summer we tried to trade for him but seattle wouldn't have it. this summer AD is opting out, JVG will be right there with the MLE again. this time jeff has yao, tmac and a starting spot to offer as well. it will be hard for AD to turn that down unless he gets more money from another team which i really can't see.

i think we go into next season with AD and head at the point.

in this situation, an interesting idea would be to see if detroit would be interested in any of our guards. they lack outside shooting, so wesley or james might spark an interest there. they just drafted a PF so maybe we can snag mcdyess? with LB likely to be gone they might want to give darko some minutes too. if not detroit then orlando will be looking for a SG also. maybe we could land battie now that they drafted vazquez. toronto drafter 2 more fowards and has no backup point guard or SG. phil jackson would lose sura as a PG.

we could do something like this:

    MLE for AD.

wesley and a future pick for McDyess.

MJ + filler to toronto for eric williams

    next years roster:

    yao-deke
    Jho-McD
    TM-williams
    head-JB
    AD-sura

thats a step in the right direction. we aren't going to have the perfect offseason and go into october with a championship roster. i would be pleased with this offseason if we had a similar roster to the one i mocked.
