    Sura = Shaq

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shaq and Sura both had time off to rest their injuries, off-season and all-star game respectively, but chose only when games resume to take off time for their injuries

Sura needs to go on the IR to allow for either Gaines or Mo to come back to play.

maybe he should have thought of that during the pre-season game with Orlando when he let Steve-O (aka worse defensive PG in the league) look like the second coming of Sidney Moncrief

I mean, the poor guy (Gaines) couldn't get the ball across the half court line...

... of course, ROd Sick-land keeps falling down out there, so I am not sure which would be worse

I would actually be interested in seeing what RGaines can do.

He hasnt really had a chance to show off his stuff and this is the perfect opportunity for him to come out and play his heart out.

    Go Gaines Go Gaines!

The truth could be be much worse. Do you really think CD will let other GMs know Sura will be out for the season?
In that case, Rockets would have to pay much more to trade for a starting PG.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Maybe if Sura's out longer, it'll be hard for the Rockets to get a player for their worth. At any rate, I think the rest would be good for Sura. I've always hoped that he'll have a little time off and be fresh for a 10-20 run before the playoffs. Meanwhile, there had got to be a better option than Strickland. I don't mind the signing as many others does, but even when we have Mark Jackson (I have a weird feeling about him) last year, they can not play for more than 15-20 minutes and be efficient.. especially on the defensive end. Penetration is the worst possibility with Yao already getting in foul trouble half the time. Hopefully Gaines might be ready for defensive purposes, then have someone like Wesley and TMac control the ball offensively. However, I have doubts on this happening. Package Gaines with a pick for a PG?

This IS great news. Maybe we can somehow hover around .500 until he comes back. DAMN I wish we would have won last night! The games just keep getting tougher.

Even though Sura will be coming back, we STILL need to SERIOUSLY look at potential trades to get another PG in here in case Sura goes down for good.

To me, I dont feel it is a good news at all. 7 games is alot, and you never know wheter he will 100% when he returns. We need to make a trade to address our PG shortage. Man, Tony Parker, Steve Nash are going to kill us.

We cant do it just because Minny is going to get Kidd. We dont need Cassell to take away Yao's shots. We need Payton.

Are you saying that you hope we can win half our games while he's out?

Or are you saying that you hope our season record will hover around .500 until he gets back?

Because if it's the second - we are 10 games above .500! Even if we do a T-Wolves and go 3-7 in our next 10 contests we will be 6 games above .500 still!

Something drastic would have to happen for us to fall out of contention for the playoffs at this stage... so let's not freak out or anything - wish Sura a good 10-14 days rest, and get back to cheering for the team to beat the Spurs tonight!

    Disclaimer:
I am not a doctor, much less a back surgeon. Furthermore, I only know the extremely limited explanation given by the Rockets, so I don't really know anything about the specific situation.

Of course, that won't stop me from speculating wildly and recklessly.

A quick web search shows that this it not uncommon for people that have back surgery to have pain from scar tissue begin to occur 6 to 12 weeks after the surgery.

I don't mean to alarm anybody, but from what I can tell, it's known as "Failed Back Surgery Syndrome" cause by "Epidural Fibrosis".

Again, I'm not a doctor, but searches reveal that the common treatment is epidural steroid injections but that these are temporary in nature, providing relief for a period of time during which intensive physical therapy should be done to break up the fibrosis. It would seem, if my reading of the info is correct, (and there are a lot of “ifs” here) that this is a short-term fix, as the timetable wouldn't seem to include the necessary therapy. Under this hypothesis they are planning to try a more permanent approach involving physical therapy in the off season.

As such, given the expected period of relief from the steroids, it is not unreasonable to expect a reoccurrence, perhaps right about playoff time if we're unlucky, that would cause another 10-14 day down period.
