This is amazing news. I thought that Sura's season, if not his career was done for. Now he's coming back in 5-6 weeks?! Hallelujah! It's possible he might just be a shell of his old self but it probably will still be an upgrade at the point guard spot. Can anyone else actually confirm this??

Random urine tests should cure anyone's joint problem. I can't say I'm not disappointed, but surely Sura should be able to overcome his addiction.

Sura is one tough, gutsy dude. If he can get in shape and play 20-25 mpg that would be a huge boost for us. I'm just happy for him to hear this news, even if he did choose to retire.

That's awesome news :) I can only imagine what kind of emotional lift Sura's return would be for this team...

It'd be the positive, feel-good emotional equivalent of Yao giving Colin Pine a wedgie.

My god what is wrong with you calling our players garbage. Anderson has played well at times with an all around game. SWIFT had a very good game tonight vs. the Celtics, hopefully he can continue doing so. Rafer has barely played for the Rockets. We still have yet to see our entire team play together for an extended time. Some people are just far too impatient.

Call me one of those people who has yet to pass judgement on Alston. I actually have liked a lot of what little we saw of him, at least on the offensive end. Sure, he has not shot a high percentage, but nobody else on the team has either, with the exception of Yao. Everyone was/is pressing in TMac's absence.

However, it is clear that he had some 'opportunities' on defense, but again, that is not surprising, given what we have seen of new players entering JVG's system in the past. Not many guys are able to step right in here and do what JVG wants defensively, at least not immediately. DW last year is the lone exception I can think of.

Will Rafer ever get himself out of JVG's doghouse and back on the court? I hoep so. Obviously we all want our own players to succeed and do well. But only time will answer the question.

As far as DA goes, he has been called on to play a bigger role than I think anyone anticipated, again because of TMac's absence. He looked a little overwhelmed, but so did everyone else. He has clearly been playing better lately, both offensively and defensively.

Swift? Sheesh. He'll never be Amare Stoudemire, so perhaps we will never truly be satisfied with him. Even still though, he does seem to be lacking just a bit in the cognitive skills department. Jeez, if he would just show up reliably from the weakside and swat away the layups that get past the guards and Yao, and if he could just learn to reliably make a little post-up move on offense, and if he would just point his nose in the direction of the ball on every rebound and use his freaky athleticism to go GET the damn thing, well, then, we would all be happy. What more could we want?

But so far, we only see glimpses of those things. He lacks the one thing that JVG would KILL for, and that is consistency. Mayyyybe we are seeing a little progress with SS, it's kind of hard to tell.

One question I would have on this issue is: Does JVG 'freeze out' the guys in his doghouse, or does he work with them more, trying to get them to improve?

In other words, once JVG gets it in his head that you can't really produce for him, is it really possible to climb back out of that hole? Most of the time, whenever JVG pulls Swift out of the game, and brings back in Yao or JH, it seems pretty obvious that JVG is not even making eye contact with SS, that he is almost ignoring him as he walks by, giving him the cold shoulder. Maybe it's my imagination, I don't know. But it makes me wonder what is happening at practice.

Can he really be that bad, that JVG is already giving up on him? Wasn't that the big thing during the offseason, while the Rox were pursuing SS? 'Trust JVG'?? We had plenty of doubts about SS before we ever acquired him, but the common wisdom was that 'If JVG wants him, then there must be something there that he knows he can work with.'

It sure would be nice to be a fly on the wall inside JVG's office.
