I take issue with the title of this thread...there is no constitutional "right to abortion" and abortion is not illegal throughout the United States. Women today, tomorrow and many days in the future will continue to have access to abortion.

If indeed the residents of the several states want the "right" to abortion to continue they can put representatives in place to install that right in law.

I sincerely hope this is where those who are disappointed in this decision will put their efforts rather than the use of violence and upheaval.

looking into whether such issues are considered "constitutional" based rights? sure.

Doubt it…sure the left is angry today. There will be big protests, angry tweets, etc but come November they won’t bother to show up to vote.

They use the fact that it's not in the constitution even though it's abundantly clear to anyone who isn't a bible thumper that it belongs in the constitution.

It's the fundamental true reality of the conservative/libertarian movement:

Freedom and liberty for us, but not for you. We get to choose how you live.

    key sentence:

"...the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives."
Roe has poisoned politics in this country for half a century. It has also determined the makeup of the court itself. If you don't like the current court, Roe is to blame. for those of us who hope to move to a more balanced, less partisan political environment some day, the people have regained their voice, and all is as it should be.

That's what the reality is. Let's stop pretending this is about the people's voice and admit this is about having the Church impose their beliefs on all people.

Fall semester is going to be fun!

This decision isn't that horrible in result constitutionally, but the process and justification is insincere and full of jurisprudential inconsistencies.

Well looks like it is time to invest in an abortion clinic in Mexico just over the border.

it’s a shame Dems keep trotting out people like Biden, Harris, and Pete

Biden just recently finally came to the conclusion that the MAGA party can’t be reasoned with…that was obvious years ago

Dems just come across as soft and not wanting to step on any toes

Completely agree. You see it here all the time with people like Sura claiming to be "Libertarians" who are independent therefore you should debate them with white gloves on so you don't dare offend them because you want them to CONSIDER voting Democrat if only you'll let them agree to hard right antidemocratic views on this ONE issue.

So that is true... (those people also always white men with diverse social circles... for some reason)

But there is a larger voting base that fall into the narrative traps especially on economic perception. How many times in your childhood, and teens did you hear people say that "Reagan was good with the economy" or that "Jimmy Carter was a horrible president.".... yet when you did into the facts it's hardly the full truth especially over time. The biggest but most effective lie is that Republicans are good with the economy.

That's not just the fake Libertarians on online forums. It's a real problem with misinformation, and I'm afraid that because of the oncoming recession happening on a Democrats watch even though it's caused more by deregulation under Republican policy, there are voters who will have that in the back of their mind, and there will be enough of them that vote based on lies they are told that stick.

Will be interesting to see how opinions will change from some of you when the GOP moves to make abortion bans federal.

It's a shame progressives keep trotting out people like Sanders and Warren, who can't even beat a Biden or Pete in a primary consisting of a much higher percentage of progressive voters.

If Biden doesn't run, put Fetterman on a Presidential primary ballot in 2020 and he likely wins it all.

They need to let the best candidate get a shot, stop with the identity politics, quit alienating people and just run on the foundational principles of the party. Hire some former Republicans to your PR team so you can work on that messaging issue. Honestly I just think we're going to go further down the shitter and it won't get better from here. The best days of this country are behind us...unless drastic change is enacted.

A few Mexico clinics recently said they were getting 4 or 5 US citizens for abortions a week after previously only getting 1 or 2 a year since the Texas abortion ban went into effect. I imagine their business is going to pick up significantly here. Anybody who wants an abortion will just have to travel for one. It's a costly inconvenience.
