Confirmed to circuit on 97-0 vote in the Senate, 2013, if wikipedia is correct. Stanford Law. Represented Skilling. Has union animosity. Stellar credentials.

Interesting if that's where this goes.

Will be great for our country to have a liberal SC.

Can Obama nominate himself? The SC will immediately have much more swag.

And have Biden finish out his term? Congress wants to get rid of President Obama but I don't think they want to do it that bad.

Agreed; after Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, I will always be leery of conservative SC Judges.

In before this thread gets moved to the basement.

You think it was wrong for the court to allow a film critical of Hillary to be broadcast?

Scalia explaining the virtues of separation of powers, checks and balances, gridlock, obstruction. A master class on what makes America exceptional.

Conservatives love to talk about activist judges, but only if they are liberal. Citizens United is one of the worst SC decisions ever in the history. This is heading over to the D&D, might as well make it quick.

Citizens United will get reversed if Obama's nomination goes through. The only way I see that happening is if Hillary wins the general. I will also not be surprised if the empty spot goes unfilled for many years.

Most people don't realize Citizens United was about the FEC trying to stop a movie from being broadcast.

The justices asked the Obama administration if the same reasoning could be used to stop a book from being published in the future, and the Solicitor General said yes.

It was a blatant first amendment violation.

Just noting there is already a D & D thread so leaving the political stuff out.

I agree this is a big loss for his friends and family. From everything I've heard he sounded like a very witty and warm person who made good friends across the ideological spectrum. He was both a great intellect and someone who loved intellectual challenge. He seems like someone I would've loved to have dinner with and have a free ranging discussion on any topic.

Even though I disagreed with him often this is also a loss for this country. In the contest of ideas his voice is just as much needed as that of Bernie Sanders.

D&D already have a thread for this. I was hoping this is more about giving respect for the man. Like him or not, he's a huge figure in american politics. But... oh well.

Too many political idiots cheering this man's death on other parts of the internet. This guy was probably the BEST judge to be in front of if you ever got arrested. I believe there are implied consent cases going before scotus. Without scalia, the the vote might go in favor of giving the state more power in those situations. Idiots cheering his death, of course, have no idea
