I'll take your deflection from your factually incorrect statements as an indication that you're too immature to correct yourself when proven wrong.
Sticks and stones. Weak as usual!!!! Who did you prove wrong?? Yourself???? Have you ever proven anyone wrong???
Just admit you're factually incorrect. It's a bad look to just keep ranting and ignore your own factually incorrect statements.
still zero protestants on the supreme court bench when 1/2 the population is protestant....how does that happen?
cml750 has worked hard to build a brand that stands out, even among some truly craven far right spin-meisters. It's not a bad look. It is... cml750.
Reagan's 1st nominee during the democrat senate was on record defending Jim Crow-era poll taxes, condemning portions of the Civil Rights Act banning discrimination in public accommodations, and arguing against extending the equal protection of the 14th Amendment to women. He also didn't believe the US constitution guaranteed a 'right to privacy.' This wasn't a "we don't want a conservative" issue with US senators. It was a public outcry from across the county. Reagan's 2nd try withdrew from consideration after reports of past drug use as well as ethical questions while he was an attorney. Also, Kenny was not seen as a "Swing Vote" judge had has only seemed to become a swing vote since O'Connor was replaced by Alito. From the NY Times, "In writing nearly 500 opinions, he has earned a reputation as a careful judge of basically conservative leanings who approaches legal problems case by case and has apparently never evinced a desire to change the modern course of constitutional law. Some scholars who have studied his record say his approach is similar to that of Justice Lewis F. Powell Jr., whose retirement last June created the vacancy on the Supreme Court. Justice Powell was a nonideological conservative who often cast the deciding vote on the sharply polarized Court. Was on Earlier List" Has Garland ever ruled in favor of Gun control? I think some senators will bend and support a hearing on him. Early polls seem to suggest most americans feel they should give him a review but not necessarily approval. If the public support gets strong then you could see senators that are up for re-election cave to pressure out of fear for their seats. You might see a
Congress has shot down everything Obama has proposed for the past 6 years without compromise. Of course only a whack-head would think that Obama not giving into the ridiculous demands of the tea party means he got everything he wanted. Obama has had to fight to maintain the status quo - and somehow the right-wingnuts thing that is giving in everything. If it were up to the crazies, this country would have defaulted and the gov't would still be shut down.
How does one become this ignorant? I don't think there is a drug out there to excuse your behavior. You really should apologize, its the christian thing to do.
yeah SC appointees tend to come from ivy league backgrounds, particularly harvard law.....but then this is typically the home sphere of elite class WASP's, rite? hard to believe not even one from this group has been chosen for the current SC bench
This is exactly what I'm talking about. I hear this so much along with the idea that Obama has never tried to work with the republicans. It's baffling
I have said many times that the combo of: 100 fold increase in TV programming + the internet has ironically led us to the post-fact age of America. We are not just emotionally divided, but we live on different planets of "information" and definitely belief. cml750 really believes Obama has gotten "everything he wants," despite some of us seeing our sour-faced POTUS standing up once a week, looking side to side across an audience of reporters, to whine about gun control, immigration reform, etc, etc, etc. At some level, even though I think it's incredible that cml750 (and many others!) believe what they do, you have to honor it and not insult it. It is a fellow human being parsing their sensory input and coming to a conclusion. A very emotion-driven conclusion (with extra punctuation), but a conclusion. I don't honor it as an alternative "fact" but I don't see any point in name-calling either. (Not to say you do, justtxyank).
I don't think we should honor ignorance. Once we do that as a country we're screwed and judging by the how widespread this ignorance seems to be we might already be screwed.
Yeah, we are already screwed. My point is that the high and mighty road will not encourage people to open their minds. It just makes them further close their minds. So I guess I'm saying speak calmly and as factually as possible, but the more emotional our reaction to the anti-fact people is, the higher the flames rise all around. I don't think all caps, insults, or the equivalent dismissive language helps in any way. It just preaches to our own choir. Maybe "honor" is the wrong word, but these days I try to think about how a Jesus or a Ghandi would talk to a hate-filled person, if possible. (Not putting myself anywhere near those people, okay. Just admiring them). Anyway, that's I think the only path that has a chance for a brighter more cooperative future. But yeah, we are probably pretty hosed at this point. The internet and cable news aren't going anywhere. LOL.
You're fighting the science of the backfire effect - telling ignorant people that they're factually incorrect just causes them to double down on their ignorance - you're literally making him dumber by arguing with him.
I haven't insulted CML750 or participated in any name calling. I think the pompous attitude that many on the left take towards the right only makes the problem worse. That said, I AM baffled by the disconnect from reality. I am not a liberal, but I can't call myself a conservative either because of what that means. To agree with the conservative party in this country you have to be anti-education (lol COLLEGE EDUCATED!!!!!), anti-science and you have to buy into some warped belief that Obama has gotten everything he has wanted because of "weak" "lying" RINOs that sold out America and/or that white people in America are under attack.
Great post. One of my friends on Facebook posted that he was going to go to a Trump Rally before it started with a ton of cookies, and just pass them out to the people that were waiting, and talk to them. He said that he still believed love was the way. It was kind of inspiring to me. I don't think he'll change their mind, but I think that by doing that, they'll be willing to talk with him in a more civil tone. I also think it might plant the seed in their minds that not everyone who disagrees with them is an inhuman monster. One guy doing that isn't going to make a huge splash, but if everyone who's against Trump adopted that strategy it would lessen a lot of the venom that's out there. On a BBS that isn't really possible, so of course here we should all be as mean and derisive as possible to one another.
