Many always believe the grass is greener on the other side. Always want instant gratification. If the team hasn't reach expectations (which is more often than not), explode and rebuild. Easier said than done.
Kevin Martin converts at 63% AVERAGE. That means including crunch time, which he's done the past 3 games if you were paying attention. KM isn't Lebron, but he's also making half of what Lebron does. Can't say the same about Melo

Actually he makes well over half of what Lebron does... Lebron makes $14.5 million to KMart's $10.6 nonetheless I see your point.
a) What's the point of highlighting total points? Kevin Martin has played 5 more games than Carmelo has. b) Why not look at rebounds, assist, blocks, etc as well as points?
I have looked at those and have always said that Carmelo is a better player. I also took a look at FG%, FT% and 3pt%(which also make a huge difference in games).
He's a better player, but not by much. I have watched Melo play and i will admit, he is a much better chucker than Martin is.
I think Melo has a higher "level than KM, I think in more than one occassion Melo has shown he can be a superstar and one of the very best in the league. My problem is Melo isn't really consistent, people like to hype the moments that Melo is on top of his game but they neglect to mention that Melo does this on a sporadic basis. Most of the time he's indifferent on D and just chucks up shot after shot...something we can see on his stats and the fact that the Nuggets should have been a much better team than they are the past few years. I don't think you should be paying full money to someone who plays like a superstar 50% of the time. I'd rather pay half that amount to a guy who consistently plays better than Melo when he's not in superstar mode.
While some people in this thread obviously have the definition of "superstar" confused, calling his "just" a role player is probably selling him short too. I mean, yes technically every player in the league is a "role player" in some sense, so I guess it depends on your definition. In the month of December he is averaging: 24.8 points 47.2 FG% 48.4 3P% on 5.2 3PT attempts 92.6 FT% on 9.0 FT attempts All in 29:36 minutes per game. That's under 30 minutes a game! Ever since we've acquired Martin we have thrown around the "efficiency" argument, but what he is doing right now is taking that to the next level. No, he does not do much more other than the above. Yes, he is a specialist. But unlike a Novak or Jeffries, he is elite at his specialty. I would consider him a "star" in the league, but if you want to call him a role player I would be fine with that too. As long as you understand that he is very, VERY good at his role.
Yes, an average that comes from him getting his shots within the offense. Whenever the offense breaks down or we are in late game situations he is no where that efficient because he isn't dynamic at getting his own shot. When I watch the Rockets in crunch time, and that covers more than 3 games, I see a team without a true closer. That includes Kevin Martin.
Yes, his shooting percentages have been amazing...but, why was our star playing less than 30 minutes?
let me make some sense of all this non-sense.................. Melo is a game changer, closer and superstar.......Did anybody see last year playoffs when he went off !!Ofcourse theY GOT beat them but Melo is the truth....period. K.Mart is a star and a very efficient scorer, unfortunatly thats only half of the battle...I think he has all the potentail in the world but "HE" has to put it together to be that elite super star in this league.IMO Martin has a ceiling he has not even sniffed yet.It would be stupid to trade the guy, especially if you plan to go after a guy like IGGY.They should play together as one is a pure scorer and the other a more defensive do it all player (i would even insert E.Turner if Morey can work his magic).....point is he is not a super star...yet,and showed not be compared to a elite tier 1 player like Melo.........IT IS WRITTEN.
Same reason why Ginobili averages less than 30 minutes almost every year. Preservation. Martin has a history of injuries. None chronic, but more due to his style of play, and body type. In the past 3 years he has averaged about 50 games a year. Meanwhile he has a more than capable backup in Lee, who really is starter quality himself. In fact he was a starter both years he has been in the league, and deserve more minutes now. Defense is NOT the reason that is keeping him off the floor. His contributions far out weigh his negatives.
mart should get a little bit stronger this offseason. i mean the kid is 6'7. he has a lot of potential at the defence of end which would also help a elit offensive game. he is only 26 years old so he has time to devolope that part of his game.
