Don't think career-year means anything? Consider this: Only Kobe is averaging more points per minute than Kevmart this season. What does it take to be a superstar? Some people just wait for the talking heads on ESPN to anoint someone instead of thinking for themselves.
I doubt we will ever have a better shooter... He is simply a machine on offense. I would not want to see him go in order for us to get Melo.
so because a rockets fan doesn't consider him the next kob,e they are "bashing" him? everybody on cf acknowledges that he is a good player so where is the hate at? because most are realistic fans who dont overrate our players?
Yeah, very different players. Most would agree Martin is the better scorer. The comparison with Rip is his perceived overall impact on winning and what his role would most likely be on a championship contender.
We're not so much as over-rating him, it's just that we would like for him to be recognized in the league as currently being one of the best players in the league. Thats all.
Different position. If you would really compare them, you would compare Martin to Afflalo, and it's similar.
Yet his team continues to lose as well. Hows about all those missed shots which allows countless possessions for the other team. Because he's chucker.
the leauge recognizes him as an elite scorer but not in the class of lebron, kobe, dwight. what's the problem with that?
All i said was, if you are going to call Melo a superstar, you might as well call Martin one too. They both are or were scoring the same amount of points( i think Martin has passed him now and is second to Kobe ). They are just taking different paths to those points. Martin has lately been closing games at the line thus adding to this case. Melo just chucks up as many shots as possible to get his points.
Kobe chucks up as many shots as possible to get his points and look at the hardware he has. Carmelo has more rebounds per game, assist per game, steals per game, and blocks per game than martin. factor the data that durvasa displayed awhile back to show that martin is one of the worst defenders in the leauge at his position. you understand there is more stats than just points right?
I'm not sure why you're bringing up Kobe in a Melo vs Kevin Martin discussion. How is another player relevant considering the fact that Melo has as much hardware as Martin at this point(i.e. 0)? Yes there are stuff more than points but sometimes the one thing you do is so good it makes up for your lack in other aspects of the game. If you look at 82games.com Kevin Martin has a net point production (own less opponent) value of 9.4, while Melo has a net production value 0f 10.8. So maybe Martin is indeed one of the worst defenders in the league, however he's also the most efficient scorer in the league. Add it all up and his production is almost equal to Melo's, except he doesn't have thug/knucklehead issues and he costs half as much as Melo does.
how are all those stats contributing to wins tho? mitch richmond looked good on paper but what has he done? melo has the individual stats and the team success at this point. martin still hasn't lead his own team to playoffs while melo did that his rookie season. martin still has to prove himself in the post season before the "superstar" talks
but he's taken his teams farther then martin. how are you a superstar yet you never led your own team to the playoffs?
I am a huge Kevin Martin fan but he is not a superstar. Superstars change the atmosphere of games and take control of games. Kevin Martin can score like there is no tomorrow, but when the game is on the line or the team needs to change the momentum, the superstar will make that defensive play/that assist/that shot. I haven't seen Kevin martin do that. Until Kevin Martin shows that he is going to carry the team on his back and lead them to wins, he is not a superstar.
Did you watch the last game? Dude balled out in the 4th... not saying he's necessarily a superstar, but he showed up big when it mattered most to secure the win on the road. Check his numbers this month, and tell me he doesn't change the atmosphere of games. He's been racking up buckets (30, 34, and 40 pt. games), and the team is 9-3 in Dec. He's no Kobe, but he's certainly a game-changer and one of the most potent offensive weapons in the game.
