Oops, missed this part in my last post. This is my point though. Superman has a plethora of enemies just as powerful or moreso than he. Villains he'd actually have to use brains against, as well as brawn. Lex Luthor (esperially in his rediculous film persona) has been overdone. I mean, once Superman is surviving kryptonite stab wounds, then picking up islands made of kryptonite and tossing them into space, it's time to step up to the big leagues as far as real threats go. There's no longer any suspense.
Lex's master plan was pretty silly. He expects to defend an entire continent with a half dozen ex-cons and a woman. Any gang above the level of the boy scouts would be able to conquer them in a second.
I didn't really have a problem with the final fight at all...Lex's plan though, I will admit was a little far fetched, but I kind of loooked at it as him not trying to sell the island off to the highest bidder - as it would be pretty hard to defend and that land is pretty uninhabitable - but selling the alien technology that created it. But agree they need to move on from Lex Luthour, he's been a little overused.
I saw it on PPV as well. A few thoughts: Routh seemed to be doing TOO much of a Christopher Reeves impression. Very big let down that Kal Penn didn't speak AT ALL in the movie. Quite a few Superman/Jesus parallels. His father (can't remember his name) sends his one and only son to earth because they have the capacity for good. He is raised as a human even though he is not. He becomes a "savior". He goes home and then returns = prophesized second coming of Jesus. He dies (kind of ) and comes back to life.

Lex Luthor overused? He was barely a factor in II, and then I don't think he was even in III and IV (don't remember, but pretty sure).
Lex Luthor was the guy that created Solar Man (or whatever he was called) in Superman IV, basically was the top villain in the movie.
Spoiler Look for this to be remeided in the extended cut that will come out sooner or later. Along with the first 15 minutes of the movie that was cut out (the return to krypton scenes) and the scenes at the farm there was a whole subplot with Penn and Luthor. It revealed he (Penn) was Luthor's plant in the Daily Planet that was planting stories in the paper that Krypton had been found by scientists which sent Superman into space looking for it. The also cut out a few of his scenes where he had lines with Luthor when they were trying to find the Fortress.
I watched it last night as well on PPV. I thought it was worth the $2. Nice visual effects and sound. Nice on a 50" HDTV. Kevin Spacey is one of the coolest actors in hollywood, so I enjoyed Lex Luthor. Overall....good flick!!
Everytime I see Spacey as Luthour I think to myself, that right there was Freeze...but no, Schumacher had to cast Arnie instead.
Superman Impregnates Señorita Lane,Leaves her for half a decade, returns to stalk her ;and yet the women loves him And yes, Pinky and the brain thought Lex's plan was an awful one!
DUDE. ROTFLMAO. Everything he said is ME. I have NEVER read a book. Thanks for that, man. After he impregnates her, it's Señora Lane.
Hahah I went to see him last year when he came to laffstop. H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S!!! Speaking of which.. wasn't Titanic great?
