Spidey IMO is cooler, more interesting powers, human, and mortal. DC's universe has too many maxed out guys, whereas in marvel its more interesting when a supersoldier with a shield is one of the deadliests to deal with.
That episode you saw was the finale to the entire DCAU (DC Animated Universe) that has existed since Batman:TAS started in 1992, which spanned something like eight inter-connected shows (Batman TAS, Superman TAS, Batman: Gotham Knights, Static Shock, Batman Beyond, The Zeta Project, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited) and five films (Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Batman: Sub-Zero, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman, and the upcoming Superman: Brainiac Attacks) over the course of 14 years. As far as I know, the final episode hasn't been shown in the US yet. (But it aired long ago in the UK, allowing me to "acquire" it) Excuse the geek moment, guys. It just saddens me, since I've been watching these shows since I was ten, to see it all go. Anyway, my point is, it's funny that it took them that many shows and films to finally flesh out that portion (holding back) of Supe's character. You would think this would be one of the primary aspects of his character, especially if they could have Supes kinda lose it and accidentally kill a villain. That would allow him to have real internal conflict about whether he wants to continue on fighting crime, and doubting the worthiness of his position in the world.
Yeah, I too have been with the DC animated universe since I was 10. Justice League Unlimted was such a great show, I'd understand if it was being cancelled because they felt they've told all the stories they can tell or if the ratings were bad, but the reasons it's being cancelled suck. I don't know the particulars, something of a turf war brewing between the animation guys and the movie producers, IE you haven't seen the joker because he'll be in the next batman movie. I don't know how that makes sense because Lex Luthor has been a big part of JLU, but the show was cancelled before the movie opens.
Joss Whedon, the creator of Buffy and Firefly, wrote for the Astonishing X-Men for a few issues recently (didn't read them) and in an interview he said he hated the current state of the comic world. Everyone is way too powerful! It seems like everyone nowadays can reverse the polarity of your ions or something like that. They need to get back to more simple powers. People actually WANT to walk through walls or jump really high. And it makes it more about the characters development and less about figuring out what the HECK their powers do. I agree with him entirely. Everyone's way too powerful. It's like Sarah Silverman said, "If everyone had AIDS, wouldn't it be kind of like no one had AIDS?"
For the most part, DC's heroes match the power levels of Marvel's villains, and Marvel's heroes are closer to the DC villains.
Superman vs. Toad could not be more evenly matched. Ditto Batman vs. Apocolypse, and Colossus vs. Captain Boomerang.
He's talking about numbers. It seems like Marvel's villains are more often the uber-powerful, universe changing type. While it is DC's heroes that are the big power guys.
Let me out geek you, the Episode Alum was referring to was the Justice League season 2 opener, Twilight. For any superhero junkies, Justice League is a great show, first season is out on DVD but the 2nd season is awesome, after that it morphed into Justice league Unlimited and that had an awesome 2nd season as well, must see if you like superhero stuff
my son just got Spiderman Unlimited (or whatever it's called) for Gamecube. it's only further confirmed to my geeky self that Spiderman rocks the casbah.
Ultimate Spider-Man. Yeah, I got that, it's based on the Ultimate Spiderman comics which are a modern reboot. Only problem with the game was that it was waaaay too fricken short. Though there is a lot to explore, but it's mostly challenges and collecting.
it's still new to us. he has today off, and when i woke up he was already in the playroom. he asked me to beat Rhino for him. fun game.
Actually, it wasn't. The dialogue Almu quoted came straight from "Destroyer," the second of a two-parter that is the final episode of Justice League Unlimited and the DCAU/Timm-verse. As I said, it has yet to air in the US. Remember, in "Twilight Pt 2" (which was quite a while ago. Does CN even air it anymore?), Superman and Darkseid fought in the closed-in confines of Brainiac's space fortress. They weren't on earth at all, and in the end, Batman ended up having to save Supes. In "Destroyer" Darkseid returns and he and Superman have one final fight on earth. That is where what Almu described takes place. It's an okay finale, but I feel "Epilogue" from last season was much better and fan oriented, especially with the ending symmetry it had to "On Leather Wings," B:TAS fist episode. So "out-geek" that!
I gotcha, it's been a while since I've the SupermanTAS finale. Epilogue was awesome just like the entire "Cadmus" arch Cartoon Network hasn't been showing any Justice League or JLU for a while. There are a few new episodes left in JLU's life span and aside from their premiere they never replay them. New episode this Sat. nite, leaving my DVR on
The 2nd trailer is up at Apple.com. Looks just ok to be honest. But I said the same thing about all the Batman Begins trailers and I ended up loving that movie. Whoever put together that trailer gets bonus points for not only using John Williams' classic Superman themes but also mixing in what I swear sounded like The Thin Red Line at the beginning.
