Only if that were the case, Romney were leading everyone in WV with 47% of the votes, then McCain moved all of his votes to Huckabee only to block Romney's win. There is no doubt the fruitcake has some kind of deal setup with McCain already. He is only in it to stop Romney.
republicans have heavily used religious vote in the past. now it looks like it may come back and bite them in the butt.
for people who vote based on religion, it most definetely is. it also doesn't help he's flip flopped on abortion.
From the last couple primary states, Romney did ok among Evangelicals outside of Huckabee, I think he did better than McCain.
Yes but we're talking about the Evangelicals who vote based on their religion (which, presumably is the only reason Huck is getting votes according to the talkies). Going by that logic, why would you assume that voters of Huck would vote for a Mormon?
Mainly because he's promoting himself more aggressively on social issues than McCain has. The goal of evangelicals is not to get a Christian in office - but get someone who will push the pro-life agenda and the like. Romney, as a panderer, has been much more assertive in being anti-gay and pro-life than McCain has.
McCain's pro-life history is ALOT better than Romney's. Any pandering Romney tries to do to the religious right will be recognized as such. All you have to do is look at what happened while he was governor there. BTW you should really take a look at how Mormons are viewed in the Evangelical community.
Except Romney's very good at pandering. (Remember his "I will bring the auto industry back to Michigan" nonsense) It doesn't matter that McCain has a strong pro-life history - he's not willing to engage in the tough rhetoric that Romney does. And that matters (whether it should or not is a different issue). Most exit polls have shown that Huckabee voters' 2nd choice is much more Romney than McCain or anyone else.
Well, nobody knows for sure where they would go, again Romney did better than McCain among Evangelicals. One thing for sure is McCain did cut a deal with Huckabee today in WV.
well if thats the case (show me the polls plz ) then I guess there's something to this Huck fellow other than just his religion, so why doesn't he have a right to stay in the race? Like Romney said "quit whining" besides whos to say that McCain's campaign didn't recognize what a good strateguc move it would be. it's not a move that would need Huck's backing. as Romney said to Huck again "quit whining"
You've been saying that, deepblue. Do you have anything that backs it up? That's a pretty big story, if true. Impeach Bush before it is Too Late.
yeah I dont understand why he would need to cut a deal with Huck to do that. Does he need permission from Huck or something?
That's just what I see, when 100% of one person's vote went to the other just to block the the candidate that both of them have been attacking. Tell me what do you see.
I noticed around 1% for McCain, but I don't see any evidence that it was on orders from the McCain campaign or McCain. That's what I see. edit: I just read this in the Washington Post - Backers of McCain, who was a distant third in the first round, threw their support to Huckabee in the second round to prevent Romney from winning, the Associated Press reported. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/05/AR2008020501709.html?hpid=topnews Kudos... you were right. That slimy McCain!!! Impeach Bush before it is Too Late.
According to Lew Rockwell: Ron Paul Supporters also threw their support behind Huckabee after the 1st ballot in exchange for 3 (of 18) of their delegates to be voted to the National Convention.
Here's today's example of McCain's problem with the religious right: http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/02/dobson_i_will_never_support_mc.php Dobson: I Will Never Support McCain By Eric Kleefeld - February 5, 2008, 1:40PM With John McCain on the verge of winning the Republican nomination, the once-complacent anti-McCain forces on the right are getting louder than ever. This morning, James Dobson released a statement to Laura Ingraham's radio show, declaring that under no circumstances would he support McCain in the general election — a potential blow to the Arizona senator, since it could discourage turnout among some evangelical voters. Here's a YouTube featuring the audio of Ingraham reading the statement: Some of the reasons why Dobson won't support McCain: • McCain opposes a Constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. • McCain supports funding for "embryonic stem cell research to kill nascent human beings." • McCain was part of the "Gang of 14" compromise, preserving the filibuster • McCain "often uses foul and obscene language." Dobson was quite firm on what he'll do if McCain gets the nomination: "I simply will not cast a ballot for president for the first time in my life." The stem-cell stuff, gay marriage, etc - he's just not willing to take the far right platform on this. Romney, on the other hand, will take whatever positions necessary.
