You can't be comparing video games to literature... You could never convince me that video games have the same effect on children as books.
I'm not trying to. If you advocate elliminating one sedentary activity why not get rid of 'em all? Video games do have some very nasty side effects if left unchecked, but making you fat isn't the worst of them.
Don't forget about parents of those kids that picked on them. Ofcourse that's the norm and we should let it slide right? I say we as a society have plenty of issue to deal with to be concern video games.
Yeah, you're probably right. I think the parents of the kids who were killed are just being prudes. I mean, lighten up. So what if someone wants to make a video game depicting the murder of your child. It's been 7 years already. Let it go.
Yeah, see, I have a hard time figuring out what I want to make of this. First reaction was disgust, and couldn't believe anyone would support it. Then I started reading what it was supposed to be 'about', and some of the interviews with Columbine survivors who have played it, I was a little more hesitant to damn it completely. But to me it still looks like it's glorified the situation and is making a name for the developers based on the whole thing. This is essentially the problem I have with it; not the 'violence' or the pointless (IMO) debate on videogame/movie/book/music effects, but that something like this, if not done for any true purpose, is simply disrespecting people that have died and their families. That's the issue I have. Looking at the graphics, and some of the screenshots....I just don't buy that it was made for a 'message'.
For those of you this doesn't bother would you have a problem if a terrorist style video game came out where two of the missions included blowing up the federal building in Oklahoma City and flying a plane into the World Trade Center buildings/Pentagon?
It's a good idea if it sells. I wasn't aware everyone on this board was so high and moral. Money > Morals
It is the parents fault. I think from the very beginning you teach them what is real, and what is make beleive, regarding movies, television, video games and anything else. Once they understand that, then it almost doesn't matter what they watch, see, play etc. Parents know to talk to their children about sex, drugs, grades, etc. But they many parents don't think to clearly explain over and over what is real and what is make believe.
i'm not calling them prudes and i'm not surprised (actually, i would expect it) to see them upset about the game. i'm saying it's a game just like any other violent/crime game. the only difference is this one is hitting home.
that's the dumbest thing i've ever seen, obviously it was a joke then it started getting so much attention so the makers started talking about a serious message to get people talking or whatever
the game is horrible, not in idea but in gameplay. Although I found it interesting on some of the aspects of the story of the whole thing. After 15 minutes of playing it, you feel like you just found duck hunt for NES in your closet and tried to recapture the glory and failed miserably.

some things just cut a little close to the bone. we can't all be sooo desensitised to violence and death etc - to say we shouldnt give a rats ass about the feelings of those affected , directly or indirectly, by not only the columbine situation, but all the others of similar nature. yes, we do have the right to say its ok. we do have the right to rationalise BS like this. and if we choose to, we do have the right to be total and complete unfeeling , careless bastards.
Montreal gunman liked 'Columbine' game http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060914/ap_on_re_ca/canada_college_shooting MONTREAL - A man with a black trench coat whose shooting rampage in a Montreal college killed one person and wounded 19 others before he was slain by police said on a blog in his name that he liked to play a role-playing Internet game about the Columbine shootings.
not good. remember that the little kid who shot the kids from outside his school with perfect headshots credited Doom for his success. last night i played Ghost Recon with a friend on his new XBox 360. we live in a culture that glorifies violence, and we're all very much a part of it. i think crap like this is the fruit of that, unfortunately.
While it may be in poor taste, war games like Medal of Honor mimic real life events too. Where is the outcry from the families of those that died during D-Day? If you build a market on violent video games, your asking for someone without a moral compass to create something like this. My advice, don't play it and move along.
