I've read through most of the thread and still have yet to see anyone note how the Colts can stop the Saints offense, which was the best in football. I don't think NO minds a shootout. Not saying they will win, but a lot of comments revolve around how garbage the Saints D is, yet no one is mentioning their league best offense and how it seems like you can pass on Indy.

Schaub threw for 311 in week 9, and we all know how we blew that game (well, getting to OT at least).

Brady threw for 375 and 3 TDs in week 10. The Colts won that one in the final seconds.

Schaub threw for 284 and 2 TDs in week 12. You can argue that we blew that game as well.

Even VY almost threw for 250 in week 13.

    Sanchez looked ok last week.

How does Indy stop NO from putting points on the board?

People act like the New Orleans defense didn't cause those turnovers though. The Saints offense couldn't capitalize on them. Also, the Colts defense has not played an offense as good as the Saints' this playoffs (Ravens and Jets? Nah). The Saints defense has (Cardinals and Vikings? Yep). Should be a good game. I think people are overrating Indy's defense actually. The Saints defense had to deal with both Warner and Favre and they both have something in common. Before playing the Saints, those two were barely touched (during the playoffs at least). When they played them, they were rocked...

they are suseptible to high turnovers? They aren't as good as manning?

I know what you mean in that the saints have had to go up against better offenses, and that will help them.

But you also have to consider that the colts have gone up against some pretty damn tough defenses known for pressuring qb's and manning handled them very well.

Jason Campbell threw for 367 yards 3TD's on the Saints

Marc Bulger threw for 298 yards 2 TD's on the Saints.

Saints are 26th in pass defense
    and 20th in points allowed.

    so it goes both ways.

Vikings had 31 first downs compared to the Saints 15

Vikings had 475 yards of total offense compared to the Saints 257

Saints only had 189 passing yards and 89 rushing yards.

Peyton Manning just threw for 377 yards 3 TD's No Picks on the #1 defense in the NFL.

How is NO gonna stop Indy frm putting points on the board.

I'm seriously pissed with the lack of recognition Jonathan Vilma has had this year. I think he's easily been the best linebacker in the NFC. By far. That being said, he now faces the hardest game of his life and you know what? He doesn't need 14 tackles or 2+ sacks or 2 interceptions to be successful. HE NEEDS TO OUT PLAY CALL MANNING.

There's any one player who's been able to do that in the playoffs since the Colts won the superbowl and that's Stephen Cooper.

Tedy Bruschi wasn't a tackle machine like Ray Lewis, he wasn't a hard hitting linebacker like P-Will, he wasn't a sack specialist like LT.. but he was one of the smartest linebackers to ever play the game and he would excel at counter audibles.

I think Vilma can anchor that Saint D just enough for them to win the superbowl.

He's not denying this. What he's saying is that the exact same arguments can be made on the opposite sides. Yes, the Colts offensively had a better game than the Saints on Sunday. On the other hand, the Saints had a far better yards-per-play and yards-per-pass performance (defensively) against Brett Favre and a loaded Minnesota team than the Colts did against a mediocre-at-best Jets offense led by a rookie QB.

    It goes both ways.

Not sure what you're pissed about. He made the pro bowl. Do you want the media to talk about him more? Who cares what the media thinks.

Pro bowl is the worst "all star" event of all sports. How about DPOY mentions? Linebacker of the year?

and they held the number 1 rushing attack in the nfl to only 86 yards.

    it goes both ways

But considering the Saints are clearly a pass-first team, how relevant is that, really? And of course the Jets' rushing total was a little skewed by the fact that they trailed for most of the second half, making them pass and cutting down on their usual number of carries.

Again, I'm not saying I think the Saints will win. Just that there are compelling arguments each way on these issues - I think that's the only thing that poster was trying to point out.

and i was rebutting the question of "how will the colts stop the saints from scoring" with "how will the saints stop the colts from scoring".

they're 26th in pass defense and 20th in points allowed and manning just threw for 377 yards 3 TD's 0 INT's on the number 1 pass defense in the nfl.

I just don't see how the Saints will be able t stop Peyton Manning when the number 1 pass defense in the NFL wasn't enough t even slow down his numbers.

it was impressive for the colts defense to stop the rush that well, especially considering they are a "smaller" defense, built more for speed than smashmouth

They may not stop the Colts. But the Saints have the highest scoring team in the NFL, right? In other words, they are quite capable of winning a 49-42 game. So they can't stop Indy. Ok...but can they not come right down the field and match them point for point?
