It isn't just the fans..... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/football/nfl/super-bowl/01/29/predictions/index.html?cnn=yes http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs2008/news/story?page=superbowlpicks09 At worst its 50-50 so at least there doesn't appear to be a legit underdog anymore. Sure, the Steelers are probably the favorite still but this game can go either way. Personally, i'm a bit worried. This Arizona defense looks reborn and given the fact that the Steelers offense isn't exactly a juggernaut, I have a bad feeling we might have a hard time moving the ball. Establishing the run is absolutely critical -- especially with Hines Ward hobbling around on one leg. Arizona's offense is too good to get completely shut down, so I don't expect that. All the same, I have a hard time seeing the Cards blow up against the Steelers. If it turns into a shootout that definitely favors the Cards. If it stays low scoring and ugly it's over -- SIX PACK TIME! [Knock on wood, of course]
this goes in the WTF files... ok.. so everybody remembers that little mullet sporting shrill voiced harpie that kurt warner subjected america to in the moment following their first superbowl win.. well she's back.. and with a new 'do and a rockin set of ta-ta's... someone told her the gremlin look was out, thank god!
As an oldtime Oiler fan, I freaking hate the Steelers more than anything. Unfortunately, I think they are going to win the game. Rooting for the Cardinals, picking the Steelers. 34-17 Pittsburgh.
Not being a huge football fan, I'm going to go with the Arizona Cardinals because they gave me one hell of an entertaining NFC Championship Game. Plus, this rooting for the historically worst team ever. Sure, the Cubs haven't won a title in 100 years, but they've at least been competitive at some points. The Cardinals have literally done nothing in about 60 years.
I just needed to make an appearance in this thread, and flatter myself by saying that after Week 5 I proclaimed the Cardinals as my darkhorse NFC Super Bowl team.(Texans gameday thread after week 5...I'll look for it) I think that they will shock people tomorrow. That is, if they can keep Kurt Warner upright and unhurried. That's a tall task.
Here is my original post: ------------------------------------------------------------------ EddieWasSnubbed is online now Old 10-05-2008, 11:23 PM #76 Exactly. You know what time I'm going to cite as a primary example in this? You'll never guess it..... The Arizona Cardinals! They have a very good offensive line that they have built over the last couple of years. They built them with high draft picks. They also did a great thing in taking value skill picks, and signing quality free agents on offense. Now, they have a Mike Martz-esque "Greatest Show on Turf" kind of offense. If only they had put a little more effort in their defense. They have a decent defense, don't get me wrong, but it's by no means dominant. Still, I think they're a darkhorse in the NFC. -------------------------- http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=154994&page=4
Dude, you called a team a dark horse. That's not exactly a bold statement. Know what else is a dark horse? The dump I left in the bowl this morning. A bolder pick and I might give props.
Ok. Prediction Time. Pittsburgh 27 Arizona 21 Arizona wins Coin Flip. First to score a touchdown will be Willie Parker. I'll go with SanTony Holmes for Game's MVP.
If the Steelers are able to run the ball, they will win. If not, the Cardinals might take it. After watching the Eagles defense adjust in the 2nd half two weeks ago, I don't know if the Cards can handle the Steelers blitz. They definitely aren't going to get anything running the ball and Warner might do well staying in one piece. I know the Cardinals can win but it doesn't seem likely unless Big Ben has a terrible game and throws picks.
