Judge Roy moore from your state always used that "judeo christian law" thing as the rationalization for his bigass ugly ten commandments statue. You know, it's not really true, there's very few similarities to the Talmudic/Hebraic law in our legal system, aside from laws against killing, etc which are pretty much against any law, be it "judeo-christian" (whatever the hell that means) Muslim, Chinese, or whatever. If we had an actual "christian" law, as in biblical New Testament style christian, we would have stuff like good Samaritan laws, massive redistribution of income by means of high income taxes, etc....all stuff that you're not a fan of. Oh, and finally, for whatever it's worth (which ain't sh-t to me because I don't really care) she had a pastie over her nip, so it doesn't really count, IMO. (thanks TIVO)
Ok, so I'll assume then that none of you read Playboy, Maxim, FHM or watch p*rn or any movies that show nudity or sex. I'm guessing that you all cry outrage every time you see women objectified in a beer commercial or see scantily clad women in magazine ads. No one here must've EVER ogled women or visited a strip club. I'm hoping that the next time someone posts half naked pictures of Britney Spears or Anna Kournikova that everyone here will give that poster a good finger wagging and rage against the decline of morality in Western civilization.
its one thing to go out and get it yourself, theres more enjoyment and satisfaction that way. but having it dumped on you, it takes away the forbidden fruit aspect of it, anything mainstream becomes boring in my eyes. thats my 50cents
I enjoy an objectified woman as much as anyone but consider the venue. This was not a magizine or movie obtained in private situation by a consciencious adult. These images were foisted upon one billion people of all ages and creeds, without their prior knowledge or informed consent. It was shown in a situation that represents the best and brightest entertainment the United States has to offer. It was shown as a representation of the NFL, CBS, Houston and The United States. You can bet there will be retribution by those of us who were mortally embarressed.
Mr. Peterson I hope your being ironic here otherwise because you're sounding a lot like the Taliban, especially that last line. In regards to the Superbowl halftime show it wasn't my cup of tea but that's what freedom is about. THere's a lot of stuff that I don't like and I'm free to say so. At the same time I would rather put up with Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson than live in a country where morality police can ban them.
Man, I hope not. Popularized sex-selling is getting bland, but morality has always been bland. Best way to deal with it?- turn off the TV! American culture has been wholly determined by profitability for a while now, and profitability means gathering as many viewers as possible to watch commercials, and gathering as many viewers as possible means appealing to the lowest common denominator, and unless interesting and thoughtful programming suddenly (and quite unexpectedly) becomes a cash cow (and by interesting and thoughtful, I don't mean a "hard-hitting crime docudrama"), nothing's going to change anytime soon. So, do your part - don't watch it. If you want to revenge yourself upon them, then stop watching their commercials.
I think those of you who were offended by the Superbowl halftime show are starting to understand why many Asian Americans were offended by Steve Kerr's use of the term "Chinaman." I don't know if Justin Timberlake exposing Janet Jackson's breast was deliberate but have to take his word for it that it was an accident. That said I imagine that many of you were offended and are letting CBS, NFL and MTV know about it. Speaking for myself I think it was innapropiate and would hope that this type of thing won't happen again but as with Steve Kerr I don't think rolling heads at CBS, NFL or MTV is called for.
Not hard to find. Pictures are all over the internet. Try Reuters news. Sure Janet's boob is inappropriate for the venue but lets not over-react. A boob is less offensive than most of the commericials or tv shows that the world is force fed with.
Gene: C'mon. No one "foisted" anything upon you. You chose to watch the Super Bowl. Unless you were tied down with your eyes taped open against your will, you still had control of the remote. Your choice to watch it was no different than your choice to take an extra long look at an amply endowed woman in the grocery store. Just because you weren't expecting it doesn't make it any more titilating or "immoral" than nudity in any other purposefully sexualized context. I mean, it was during a football game. I guess the "twins" or catfight girls in the beer commercials on breaks between the action are ok, but Janet Jackson's boob during the halftime show isn't? Personally, I don't care either way. I will take the non-lip-sync'ed genuine halftime performance of U2 over a canned Janet Jackson with one breast exposed every day of the week and twice on Sunday's because I prefer music, like breasts, to be real. But, picking nits over t*** at the Super Bowl seems pretty silly given the fact that the game is essentially a celebration of all things testosterone. Hell, one of the NFL's primary sponsors is a drug to keep Mr. Happy functioning properly with ads featuring a guy throwing a ball through a tire swing - not exactly subtle imagery. I'm all for the reduction in the objectification of women, but let's at least be consistent.
Yet more proof that religion is the biggest problem, not solution, in human society. What's with all the insecurity? It was just a bit of titty. Why is there such fear associated with this? So what if an eight-year old sees a pair of boobs on TV? Thank you, religion, for turning sexuality into something evil.
To be fair, religion didn't do that. Sexuality has been an on and off issue with contemporary morality dating back to the dawn of known civilization. Greeks were sort of for, sort of against it. Etruscans were very for it, Romans very against it early one, less so later, etc.
If religious moralism isn't the cause of this outcry about a tit, then I don't know what is. Anyway, the idea that anyone could be offended by seeing a breast is just ridiculous.
Slightly off topic but did anyone else besides me think that Janet Jackson's male back up dancers looked like the Droogs from 'A Clockwork Orange"?
Wow. What do some of you do when a woman is breastfeeding her child in public? What the hell is so offensive about a bare breast? Why is it 'evil'?
It's offensive because if an eight-year-old boy (or girl) sees a tit on TV, they may want to one day, several years later, caress one. That could lead to sex, which is of course, evil.
