Cato13, chill. This is suppose to be a love fest. I don't think for a second that HP was trying to make racist remarks. He was just adding some color to his post. [IMG] It's not right to accuse someone of that when it is not true. I had a guy accuse me of being a racist when I refered to Eric Montross as a big white stiff. This is a good night for all of us [IMG]

Ummm HeyP, I know this is the wrong thread but while you are here.........

Do you still want to take that bet? Looks like Rudy came to his senses in the second half. Who came off the bench first? Was it Carlos or Kenny? Oops, my bad Kenny didn't even get off the bench in the 2nd half.

Also did you notice in the first half the energy Carlos brings when he comes in? He had what 6 points (3/3) and 2 rebounds(both offensive mind you for which the rockets scored) in eight minutes. He even caused a turnover on Camby on the baseline.

Now Kenny didnt do too bad either except for that one shot that he threw up wildly and for not blocking out on offensive rebound for New York. But it looks as though Rudy realized the matchup tonight.

All in all the Rockets played a great game tonight and I couldnt be more happier for Hakeem. He played alot of minutes tonight even though he got into foul trouble early and was very productive. Steve and Cuttino was da bomb baby and even Mo and Shandon contributed. Not too bad for a BAD team.

I still don't understand why Walt is still getting so much playing time though.

Ok, Ok as Martin would say.... GIVE me Love..(group hug)

BTW- I never accused him, just asked him to maybe choose a different choice of words. I just said it was "borderline". Just trying to put the shoe on the other foot.

every newbie had to wait...are you kidding. I could only talk my way into the waiters who called game, and nail my free throws when we had more than 5 waiting.

after that...Illinois ball movement and quick releases was all I needed...the "you can't go left" **** to who I was guarding came only after I hit my first "leave the white guy open" shot.

Oh how stereotypes can work in your favor....loooovely!

Heypee were u sitting at midcourt in the upper prom? I saw some Rocket and Knicks fans go at it. I was too far to actually hear anything they were saying. But man was Dream just ON! I havent had that much fun in a long time. At the end of first half I was just about ready to boo for the first time this season. (Ive only booed once befor; in a Seattle game a long time ago). But I decided I wasnt ready to boo my yound Rockets team. In the second half they showed me I did the right thing. In the second half they showed me what they are capable of. In the second half they showed me what it is like to play with some PRIDE! GO ROCKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [IMG] [IMG]

I know it's been a while since I've posted, but I gotta side with cato13 on this one. The reference to the fan's "black"ness rubbed me the wrong way too (there's one for the theme of your thread, heypartner). Seriously, a man's color's got nothing to do with how bad he can throw down. Sure, the cultural diversity that may be shared between people of different backgrounds only serves to enhance the experience. However, boiling down the essence of a person into a single word (i.e., black) is just not right. It's called stereotyping and it serves no legitimate purpose but to further preconcieved notions...mostly which are negative.

As for the game, I'm speechless. I had to give myself some time to achieve some level of control after being so geeked about that win. It's not just the win, but the context in which in came and how they did it. The absolute best part was the ball play between Francis and Dream. Damn, if that could happen every night....

I suppose that's only a wet dream, right heypartner?

    Rockets03

I saw that same guy tonight as well in the upper prom talking "smack". He didnt have too much to say afterwards though. It was sweet to see the Rockets come back and win the game so he would shut up. He was too far away from me to talk smack but I almost made a special move just so I could talk noise, but the lure of better seats down in the lower prom called me. Luckily I found some Knicks fans down there as well, so I had just as much fun.

All in all it was a good win by "a bad team" as quoted by Jeff.

driver8...thx for responding...I feel like this is becoming a Hangout thread...amen

Or from what I learned from Regis last night..."so be it"!

Studying stereotypes is my academic venture and my life passion. I know that face-to-face with a black man when smacking about basketball, what I said is not derogatory.

Claims otherwise are naive to culture and more detrimental than anything I said. Comments otherwise are more harmful to society than anything I said in this thread.

Talk to black people. Make them sweat. Make them b**** at you. Make them laugh at you. Share emotions with other races. That is the key. Until you share your emotions with us about your experiences with their culture, you have nothing to share here!

What is the freaking problem with US to not share in a most culturally (and thus, empirically) descriptive manner?1

    sheesh!

    where is rimbaud?

Driver8, he just doesnt get it [IMG]

I think I know a little bit about black folks since I was born as one and understand "their" culture since I am the "they".

Being on the end of sterotypes has been a way of life for me. I dont need to study it or claim it as an academic venture.

I couldnt have summarized it any better than Driver8. Good reply.....

I hear where you're coming from, heypartner. Only through challenging one another may we acheive greatness. I have no quarrel with your post...in fact I wouldn't label it as derogatory. It was merely the label attributed to the person to whom you happened to be jawing with that struck me as a little off. It is my position that the skin color of a man should bear no relevance to a description of the man unless the mere physical attributes of the man are being established. Otherwise, in my mind, one runs the risk of categorizing or grouping that man into a pigeonhole that society has predetermined. I gather that when you wrote the word "black" that many reading it would arrive at a preconcieved mental picture thrust upon them by societal convention. The gangsta? The gangbanger? Hell, even I'm guilty of that to a degree...I suppose I wouldn't be human if I didn't. However, I'm not sure this is the way humans minds have to work.

This is the essence of my problem with the label. I'd like to see a day where when your post describes an encounter at a game with another individual. In such a description, you may choose to describe the individual. However, when you use the word "black," it merely connotes skin color (a rather arbitrary and somewhat meaningless trait for the purposes of discussing a sporting event, but I'm not going to tell you how to describe something), not the trappings associated with that word.

See, I believe it really shouldn't matter what the guy looks like as long has he brings it strong with a little knowledge to back it up. I acknoledge a difference between white people and black people on the most general level. But this difference is solely based on the individual's cultural background. It is this difference in cultural background I find so appealing, as I assume you do as well. However, boiling the cultural background difference to "black" and "white" may be taking too general a view of the situation.

I digress. It's late (even on the west coast), so that may explain some of this rambling.

If a conversation like this one is the best a nonstop sunshine-blowing ass can do, I'll stick with the occasional criticism.

"Driver 8" is an old song by R.E.M. off the "Fables of the Reconstruction" album. Not the best R.E.M. song (although pretty damn good), but it makes an interesting screen name.

I read your post...but what is your point, other than tailing my own words. go ahead...tail my words. Why not say them yourself, than pulling me outta context in some useless lame manner.

Tell me about you,,,not about what you think of me!

Don't you get it...it isn't about who knows more in life or experience...it is about expression...words in thrilling context. You have no context here other than pulling me outta context.

you are boring me with this "I have lived with blacks more than you" ace card. I mentioned my experience to express what I love and what I have learned from others who I admire. Expression is from within...show me something cato13...and get a freaking new moniker why don't ya.

is there no expression here! sheesh

Right ON! This is absolutely so true. All I can say is we as society should not let ours mind get the better of us and pigeonhole words without thought.

Big black ass is a compliment in my mind. If it isn't in yours, then lay off me!
