Rocketman Tex...read up. Cato13 and driver8 thought me saying "black man" was objectionable, but they won't tell me why they took that negative interpretion by default. They basically are preaching to me that I should have known better. And I'm offended by that. But they are not allowing me to be offended by their views. It is one way street, with obstacles of communication that control the flow of beliefs.
It's official, heypartner=Dubya. ------------------ "Knickerbocker Please!" visit www.swirve.com, coming January 20th, the top 10 films of 2000! http://www.geocities.com/clutch34_2000 for great Rocket insight by some of your fellow BBS posters!
You know something's foul when four little words can elicit such an overwhelming (or for Clutch, underwhelming) response. ------------------ Hey now, Hey now, don't Dream it's over...
The very premise of this thread is just plain wrong ! ------------------ The whole world we travel with our thoughts, Finding nowhere anyone as precious as one's own self. Since each and every person is so precious to themselves Let the self-respecting harm no other being. -from the Samyutta Nikaya
This thread started as HeyPee's ejaculation(there is a double meaning here) describing the joy of watching the Rockets beat the Knicks, and Hakeem's flashback. Then it went horribly, horribly downhill. While this could have been an intriguing platform for a deep debate, it has degenerated into a mess of mis-understood misunderstandings. Let this thread die, let it die quietly and let it die now. Please. BTW - Driver8, your example of the Simpsons as displaying Apu as a stereotype was misleading as everyone on the Simpsons is a stereotype. ------------------ The Rockets will be the NBA champions. Believe.
Puedlfor, you've got it right. This certainly has degenerated...into what I'm not so sure. I'm sure of this, however: This is the last you'll hear from me on a non-basketball issue in this forum. heypartner, you've got the last word on this one. I'm not going to justify my life experience to you as a white man in America who has the ability to view injustice compassionately. Cato13 was right about 50 posts ago...you just don't get it, and all the "preaching" I could ever do won't change "your religion." ------------------ [This message has been edited by driver8 (edited February 08, 2001).]
