hilarious. when marbury made the "real allstar" comment, everyone got all over him and said look at what a punk he is and how immature he is. all the analysts agreed steve should be in the all star game, some said he should start, others said off the bench. but they all agreed he belonged. marbury was on the bubble, on some people's all star teams, not on others. fastforward, all of a sudden this "real allstar" comment was a stroke of genius, simply telling the truth. nice try at revisionism. oh and hey steve, pass the ball to that ming guy, stop trying to take over and be the man, pass to your teammates. wait, we lost? dammit steve, why didn't you take over, why didn't you start shooting more. what's wrong with you, why didn't you lead us. you're obviously the problem, not the PF who only shoots 3's and can't bang down low or the other one who can't rebound or defend. that SF who can't guard my mom or the other one who can't hit the ocean from the beach, they aren't the problem. the 7'5 guy who can't grab a board and gets blocked a lot, not the problem either. having a horrendous back up PG and no real backup SG, that din't hurt us either. it's all you steve, stop holding us back. oh and i'm gonna b**** that you make 90 mill now even though you officially don't and everyone in the league would agree you're a max player. just stop holding us back and running the system the coach tells you to.
I agree. However, one thing no can dispute, is that Francis just doesn't give a damn about playing defense. Until he commits himself on defense, he will always be on the outside of the playoffs, looking in.
Say what you want and make a mockery of this, but without Ming, this team would have won about 30 games. This team was doomed from the poor coaching and uninspred efforts from the outset. Had the Rocket won 1 of the 2 games against the Blazers or Jazz then we would still be talking about having a chance. AND1 mixtape and his buddies talk a good game, but when it comes to making a simple bonce pass on the break or even running a break, they don't have a clue. Theres more than enough blame to go aroung, but the guy who is supposed to be your best player really sucked in crucial games. Now we have to deal with the Astros, until October.
well i'm glad to see your hate for francis and mobley doesn't seem to run as deep as i thought (you mentioned cuttino's D and the fact we couldn't get fair value in another thread). i'll agree, steve sux at D. i don't think that's really gonna hold us back tremendously. i know the whole "defense wins championships" thing, but i mean who did kenny smith or sam cassell D up? if ming becomes the ming we hope he can be, it'll be a nice safety net for steve that many other championship have been all too willing to use. also, i think he tries more than he is given credit for but i still think he's got a long ways to go on D. for a little side rant, one thing i would love is for the coaches to come up with a better way to play picks. i swear, it seems half of other teams sets is set a pick for the PG, then watch us break down. steve either has to go above or below the pick and when he goes above, they get jumpshots or penetration and people b****, and it he goes behind they get jump shots and people b****. i think he could be better at jumping over picks, but our BIG MEN NEVER SHOW. and that has to be a coaching thing. so many of these "career nights" other pg's have come from our simple inability to coach pnr defense or execute pnr defense, one or the other. i mean if the pg gets a pick, and gets an open 15 ft shot b/c the big man didn't show, what can francis do? and if the big man is being told to not show by the coaches, what can he do. i seriously think steve would look a LOT better on D if we would trap the pg more often on picks as sometimes happens to steve when we set picks. these career nights from other pg's often have a lot to do with the fact they get free range to take lots of shots b/c of the way we play picks. don't tell me i'm the only one who sees this. now that being said, steve should get better at D for sure. still can't believe we agreed on something.
true. but again, what can steve do about that. it isn't like ming wasn't right there playing uninspired also. and if anyone seemed to bring it every night and play hard (if stupidly) i don't see how it can be said it wasn't steve. there were games when he would play crazy and out of control, but very very few where you would just look and say it looks like he didn't bring it tonight. he was most definitely the most consistent at bringing effort every night and i don't see what more you can do to make your teammates try than playing hard yourself. what's he gonna do, threaten eddie that he only gets to shoot in the post unless he plays hard.
Ah, more of Doc Rocket's cryptic messeges! From your messege and from Clutch's messege in thecabbage's thread, it appears you both feel that this (off)season will be one with a lot of action and change for the Rockets. It will be interesting to see what moves the Rockets make. It will be interesting to see how committed they are with change. Last off season the Rockets were pretty resigned to keeping Eddie Griffin, but perhaps after his play this year they will look to move him. If I were the Rockets I would look heavily into trying to acquire Elton Brand (Mobley/Griffin or Griffin/Cato etc). If this team were able to get Brand and perhaps pick up a Piakowski (MCE) in the offseason this team would benefit greatly!
Just have to tip your hat to the Suns. They've been playing great basketball, especially after Penny's return from injury. Makes me wonder if we'd even be close to them in the standings had he not gotten injured.
Don't underestimate the trade value of Glen Rice this summer: 1. He would be marketable as a player in a package to get the total salaries up that we could receive in return. He will count $9 to $10 towards the cap (with New York paying a portion of which). But he is in the final year of his deal, so our trade partner can shed a lot of salary. Which in today's NBA every team but Dallas and Portland is trying to do. 2. He was a servicable shooter off the bench, which every team needs, especially against zone defenses. He was hot after he came back from his injury. 3. He is experienced (with a championship ring), and a good locker room guy, especially in teaching the youngsters. Package him with a Mobley or a Griffin to a team trying to rebuild or get costs in line, and we might be able to get a high-priced stud in return, or a mid-priced stud plus an overpaid player whose contract a team is trying to shed.
I was pointing out what Marbury said should make Francis mad, because it's turning out to be true. Maybe it will motivate Steve in the off-season. Steve got the all-star start, but Marbury lead his team to the playoffs! If that isn't a slap in the face, I don't know what is. Also, no matter what you say about blame. In the end, the "leader" gets most of the criticism. It comes with the territory. Good or bad.
