I'm glad I didn't ruin it for you by accident, KD. I prefer spreading misery in a purposeful, deliberate manner.
I watched it til late in the first OT and then went to bed. If this were the playoffs, I would've stayed up but not the season opener.
I watched it until halftime. Steve Nash is simply amazing. He has Stockton's floor vision with Marbury's scoring ability. He obviously won't win the MVP again without Amare, but he's still a huge difference maker... It's just great to have some real live NBA hoops back...
Sir Charles' Jackson 5 analogy during Inside the NBA -- " They lost Michael- Amare Stoudemire, then they lost Jermaine -Joe Johnson, and now all they got is Tito--so it took Dallas double overtime to beat a bunch of Tito Jacksons! "
Neither of these teams, IMO, look as good as they did last year. Of course, it is the first game, but, from the Rockets point of view, they look very beatable. I can't believe that Doug Christie is starting for the Mavs. They will really miss Finley, he looked great for the Spurs. Nash is amazing, I love his play, but the Suns are not the same without Amare and Johnson. Terry and Howard are still very annoying, but if you shut down Dirk, the Mavs are in trouble.
the mavs gave up 90 pts to the rockets in regulation. less than 20 pts in 2 overtimes. criticize them for looking pathetic on offense all you want, but the criticism about playing poor defense is just the same pathetic drivel thats spouted on TNT after most of their games.
If the Suns land over .500 without Amare, something I really doubted would happen, Nash deserves all the credit in the world. He'll have to put every single teammate on his back, because they would be absolutely lost without him. And the scary thing is, he just might be able to do it. He's that good. Of course I could also envision the Suns going into a tailspin once teams start double-teaming Nash at halfcourt in order to get the ball out of his hands.
It may be a little overrated, but they don't play great defense. Above average last year in opp FG% during the regular season, but 14 out of 16 teams in that category in the postseason. To be fair, they did play phoenix one of those series, though.
The Dallas of old was a pathetic defensive team. To be honest, last year's Mavs were probably an average to above-average defensive team towards the end of the season.
