Mavs are hurting. I'm in Irving for training and I've been reading the Dallas papers. One of the articles said that it took Nash 2 years to pick up Nelson's offense. It's a complcated scheme. I don't think Harris or Daniels will be up to the standard Nash set last year. BTW, I just came back from the Chinese Nat Team game with the Mavs Summer team and I saw Harris in action. Good FT shooter. Decent shot. Looked OK on defense, but then again, the chinese guards were not that good. He is NOT as good as Nash is period. I didn't see Daniels (not playing Summerleague) for them. Now, without the Nash chip, it's next to impossible to trade for Shaq without shipping out Dirk. No way LA take any combo of Mavs other players for Shaq.
The Mavs did the right thing, but the Suns aren't insane, either. I might have tried to use Nash in a sign and trade deal with the Lakers, but then again, I would have thrown in Nowitski for O'Neal. The point for Dallas is still solid with Harris and Daniels who are much cheaper and obviously very young. The Suns are taking a calculated risk, but it is a decent signing for them. Nash can get out on the break and distribute to wing players like Marion nicely. If Joe Johnson continues to develop they could be where they were before last year. I still think they are as soft as velvetta defensively and Steve Nash is not going to change that. They will be like the Suns have always been since forever- exciting but not quite good enough. The upshot of this for the Rockets is that they will move past Dallas in the West, unless Shaq ends up there.
