Magic have the better package to offer. Redick + Nelson (or Turkoglu) + 76ers first>Beasley+Johnson+Suns 1st
Memphis can get a 1st round pick out of this? I guess I shouldn't be surprised, given that Atlanta somehow managed to con NJ into giving them a
It's funny to see the Suns organization being so mediocre now. They used to be a perennial powerhouse that never seemed to get bad. They were the OKC of the league for a little while, with so much promise in the Nash/Stoudemire/Johnson years that Joe Johnson pulled a Harden on them. (That's the achilles heal of building through the draft -- it seems to have a way of capping its own success because you have a hard time keeping everyone when there's too much talent. JJohnson in PHO, Marbury in MN, Harden in OKC, McGrady in TOR, etc.)
Regarding Phoenix sending the LAL 1st to MEM, Can someone explain this to me -- Is the pick lottery protected or not? It seems somewhat contradictory (top 14 protected, if the selection is within the top 14, they'll automatically receive it?) So if the Lakers receive the 12th pick, and Cleveland has the 13th, they'll get the Lakers pick? Then why does it say top-14 protected?
The problem with them is their owner thought that their success would be indefinite and so began to milk it for cash as much as possible. They gave away so many picks, including one that became Luol Deng. They also made a hug mistake with JJ, they should have traded Matrix instead of JJ. A core of Nash/Amare and JJ would have probably won them a ring.
I'm a Rudy Gay supporter.... But he's not worth the max contract he's receiving at all, and he's not a good player to target for the Suns. He won't push them into the playoffs by himself, and he totally kills their cap situation, which, at this point, is one of their greatest assets.
Yeah, that seems very poorly worded, but here's my guess. If the Lakers pick is in the lottery (which no one expected to happen until the games started), they send that one. Otherwise, it's the worst of LAL/CLE/SAC/MIA that they receive. It says lotto protection on LAL because that prong of the logic is dealing in a scenario in which the pick is 15 or worse. In what trade did Phoenix get this pick, the Nash trade? That's a messed up set of conditions. LA is saying if the Nash experiment is a disaster, we'll give you our best draft asset, but if it turns out great, we'll give you our worst draft asset. Why in the world did the Lakers write it like that? I had no idea LA had so many picks. It probably looked like a terrible pick when they did the trade, with expectations of great seasons out of LA and Miami. Now it's a mid- to late-lotto pick. Not bad.
Oh, and no way would I send a probable lottery pick for the privilege to pay Rudy Gay $45 gazillion over the next 3 years.
No. The Suns will always get the pick regardless, but the triggers for it can differ depending upon whether or not the Lakers make the playoffs, so the pick is crappy and subject to a swap that gets the Suns a pick, or miss the playoffs, in which case it is a lotto pick and the Suns straight up get it anyway. The language is confusing because the OPTION on the pick is protected with respect to the Suns, not the Lakers. The Lakers don't get a first round pick whether they make the playoffs or not. So the Suns get the pick straight up if it's any good, but the "Lakers somehow make the playoffs" pick situation is highly complicated and I struggled to explain this to another poster yesterday, so I'm going to just copy-paste this language from the LA Times instead: http://articles.latimes.com/2012/dec/11/sports/la-sp-ln-lakers-2013-draft-picks-protected-20121210
Would this deal work for both sides? Memphis Receives: Jared Dudley, Shannon Brown, Michael Beasley, and a draft pick Phoenix Receives: Rudy Gay, Wayne Ellington, Quincy Pondexter Memphis gets a superb 3PT shooter in Dudley, and would most likely start him and move Allen to the forward position. Shannon Brown would be an excellent scorer off the bench, and could very well replace the production OJ Mayo had for them, without any of the attitude. Michael Beasley is a wild-card, as he could either be a detriment to the team OR be a great role-player if he gets his head on right. A draft pick doesn't hurt either. Phoenix gets Rudy Gay. I'm not sure why they want him, but they do. The mediocrity treadmill keeps on rolling. Ellington and Pondexter are nice young players who help to make the salaries work and to hopefully provide some positive production. These two and Johnson could fight to start, or the Suns could mimic what the Knicks do; start 2 point guards. Thoughts?
Alright even that mess I just posted was confusing. How about this. Concise! Scenario 1: Lakers miss playoffs. Pick is a lotto pick. Suns get pick. Scenario 2: Lakers make playoffs. Means pick is not a lotto pick. Miami's pick would obviously suck as they are a good team, so Cleveland most likely to have that pick. Cleveland exercises option to swap Lakers pick with Miami pick. Miami pick goes to Suns. Lakers: No pick ever. Suns: Possible lotto pick, else late round pick. Cavs: Possible mid to late round pick.
New rumor out that Rudy might be headed to TOR. http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/53353/raptors-want-in-on-rudy-gay-chase
This guy is not going to call Rudy Gay an ******* anymore then. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/WK7lIjFsGvg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This would be a great trade for Houston. The reason being it doesn't make them that much better at all, and kills their cap flexbility. Phoenix is set to be one of just a few teams that can compete with Houston for top free agents. If you want Houston to have the edge in signing a top free agent, you should want Phoenix to land this deal.
