Rudy Gay to Suns? @WojYahooNBA: Y! Sources: Memphis, Phoenix engaged in trade discussions on Rudy Gay. http://t.co/LAjz9tNY
The Memphis Grizzlies and Phoenix Suns are engaged in trade talks centered on forward Rudy Gay, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Rudy Gay is averaging 17.8 points and 5.8 rebounds this season. (USA Today Sports)The Grizzlies have been shopping Gay to multiple teams, and found an interested trade partner with the Suns, sources said. There's no framework of a possible deal in place, but the Grizzlies have expressed a strong desire that any package involving Gay include Suns forward Jared Dudley and future first-round draft picks, sources said. In an effort to avoid paying luxury tax in the short term, as well as get off the $17.8 million and $19.3 million owed Gay in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons, new Memphis management has aggressively shopped Gay. The Grizzlies have made proposals on Gay to several teams, front-office sources told Yahoo! Sports. [Also: Carmelo Anthony confronts Kevin Garnett after Knicks-Celtics game] Gay will make $16.4 million this year. The Suns have been mindful of their financial state under Phoenix owner Robert Sarver, and there are still doubts within the organization they will ultimately be able to absorb the remainder of Gay's contract. The Suns own the Los Angeles Lakers' first round picks in 2013 and 2015. [Also: Dirk Nowitzki doesn’t sound excited about the Mavericks’ future] Under new ownership and management, the Memphis front office is dubious these Grizzlies are constructed to contend for the Western Conference title, sources said. Owner Robert Para has turned basketball operations over to CEO Jason Levien. Memphis is 22-10 and presently holding the fourth seed in the West. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--s...RhaWQDBHBzdGNhdANuYmEEcHQDc2VjdGlvbnM-;_ylv=3
Dumb move for the Suns. They need to tank and rebuild through the draft. Getting Gay would just eat up cap space and keep them from getting a good pick. I hope the Suns don't help the Grizz by eating that albatross of a contract. ........... Unless of course Rudy Gay's going to show us that he's on Durant's level.
Suns are stupid. Gay will just help them continue to be mediocre. I guess after Gordon and Harden were out of their reach, they just kinda gave up.
This is a dumb move for the grizzlies. But it would be a good fit for the suns, because the suns will run and they have the players to do it. Zbo, on the other hand, refuses to run the court, and marc gives the effort but is slow. With the team the grizzlies have (#1 in teams) we should be complimenting our transition game, however we instead want to focus on slow turttle-style half court basketball. It makes no sense.
This could be good news for the Rockets, as trading for Gay likely eliminates the Suns from the Rip Hamilton sweepstakes.
I actually think this will be good for the Grizz. They get rid of a guy who takes shots away from more efficient players, and could get cap relief or maybe defense at that position.
Memphis Trades: Rudy Gay Phoenix Trades: Jared Dudley Shannon Brown Wes Johnson ($4.2M expiring contract) 1st round pick Additional pick? Works in trade checker..Suns have $6M in cap to absorb
New Phoenix line up: Gortat Scola Gay ???? Dragic Not terribly bad....if they can find a good SG they may be kinda solid?
We lose a better defender and we become even slower than we already are. I just realized this recently, that ZBO (and to a lesser extent Marc) drags are team into a half court style of basketball. While even the guys that can run (Tony) are boneheads about it. Rudy and Mike are the only players that can play uptempo. So no, this move is terrible for the grizzlies for multiple reasons. But lets let the analytics geeks do their thang and watch it blow up in their face.
Or really good. Kinda so so competitive on some nights. So, the adjective we're looking for is....mediocre?
