The appeal of Phoenix is clear. With the great offensive coach, who has a system and philosphy that brings the best out in career bench players and turns them into valuable, exciting, succesful basketball players, John Lucas III will become one of the most exciting and beloved players in the league.
With the Rockets he will walk the ball up to set up the half court offense, negate his strengths and become a real small spot up shooter. On defense, the Jerry Stackhouse's of the world will be happy that JVG allows them to post up JL III until Van Gundy decides to blame young John for the teams bad defense and nails him to the bench. If John can get two years guaranteed from Phoenix and assurances from Mike D’Antoni that he will play, he should go to the vibrant, alive basketball heaven of the Suns instead of the empty seat, silent morgue in downtown Houston.

I think the Rockets staff will work their buts off to discover everything John Lucas III can not do on the court. Mike D’Antoni will push him to do everything he can do, and help him develope numerous new basketball.

Nonetheless, John Lucas III will probably look at guaranteed contract length & oppurtunity. In my opinion, those are his mains concern, just like any cat coming out from the D-League. However, we know he has ties with the Rockets, is it enough to where he can scrutinize his future? I think not.

I'm not impressed by Lucas ligthing up the summer league scrubs. Let's check him out in the Fonde Summer League games when he gets toasted by Htown local hoopers.

He is a defensive liability against good teams in the NBA who have a quicker point guard. At best he's 5'10" and slow.

Stop panicking at the point and let it take its course

So now we are all hinging our hopes on a 5' 10" third string pont guard?

It summer, people supposed be horny....for any kind of basketball developments I guess.

And you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Calling JL3 slow is like calling Yao short. I suggest you actually watch him play before posting comments on him. He is a big liability on defense but being slow has nothing to do with it.

A very good point, but if I was on the fringe like JLIII, I might be tempted to just take the best offer period (with the situation being only a secondary consideration). It is tough to say what he might be thinking though.

Agreed, not to mention that we have at present no backup point guard if Rafer breaks another tibia or just needs a blow for 15 minutes a game. We have to do something to secure a backup pg, and I'm hoping Plan B isn't just to resign Charlie Ward yet again.

    Folks,

I googled a bit but can't seem to find any discussion among Suns fans about JL3... Maybe I did not find the right site? Can anyone help?

    Thanks.

Do you really expect that to happen, much less III to ask?

I agree with those who say JL3's best choice is clearly the Suns if for no other reason than professional developlment.

And for those still backing JVG because he managed to get ONE team, to one Conference Final, one time, ten years ago, please.... let's at least live in reality!!! ;)

I'd take D'Antoni for JVG any day of the week, if for no other reason than we would ALL be far more entertained, have fewer migraines, and b**** at each other a LOT LESS.... just think how cool  that would be!!

As for JL3's speed, the dude is very, very quick. He's got a lot to learn on the defensive front, but our achilles heal last year was not Stackhouse and other big 2's posting up, it was the faster point guards in the league breaking us down by getting in the paint and either scoring, dishing or getting our bigs into foul trouble.

I want JL3 on the Rox, but honestely won't blame him if he goes to Phoenix. Hell, I'd go just to be closer to the west coast and the mountains!! :D :D

    Arizona Sports Fans network

There is half a thread about JL3. he shares that thread with Gooden.

IIRC, the Rockets fans were more excited when we heard about we were trying to sign Rick Brunson last season.

Hey, but under Rafer, JLIII has a lot better chance at unseating the incumbent starter. Rafer sucks...Nash does not.

BTW, Can you believe all of the talk on this board a few years ago of how absurd it was that anyone might actually think Nash was as good as Stevie Franchise? I am as guilty as anyone.

I just don't see JVG playing the kid

that is where it ends for me. . .
he should go where he has the best shot at playing

It's a tough choice for JL3. If he follows his heart - he'll come to us. If he follow his brain - he'll go to the Suns. I sure hope this kid have heart.

i think they mean hes slow on defense, his lateral movement isnt that fast for someone as quick as him....thats what makes him more of a defensive liability, he has no strength either
