Barbosa is combo guard - more shooting guard skills than PG skills. This move tells me that the Suns are looking to have him do more scoring like he showed in the series against the Lakers. The Barbosa and Diaw will need a new contract soon - and the Suns are likely not going to be able to keep both - so I expect Barbosa to be sacrified. Someone mentioned Gooden and why we are not listed as those in the running for his service. Here is my theory...Moreyball? Poor Roland Rating and Individual Player Floor Time statistics (+/-)?
My theory, Gooden is a career underacheiver despite having been given the chance to succeed. Isn't he kind of a low-key type player? Other recent low-key players with a lot of "potential": Dan Langhi Eddie Griffin Boston Snackbar Stromile Swift I think the Rockets are gonna rest a little while on low-key players with potential. How do I know? See Rudy Gay. The Rockets need role players to play with intensity ...not guys that always look like they just finished a doobie.
Hey let's trade JHo for Gooden..... Gosh we can't get anyone for fall for that one! Maybe if we put Groucho Marx glasses and nose on him and rename him Karla Maloney we might be able to slip him past someone. Also, I am way beyond pride at this point. Begging is now essential. PLEASE JLIII PLEASE SIGN WITH THE ROCKETS. WE LOVE YOU. SEE, I AM ON MY KNEES AND CRYING. PLEASE SIGN WHATEVER PITIFULLY INADEQUATE OFFER CD MAKES YOU!
In Phoenix he'll play under Steve Nash, arguably the best PG in the league, 2-time NBA MVP playing on a championship contender and probably pick up some good advice from him. In Houston he'll play under Rafer Alston and learn what it's like to be an And1 baller. Hmm... tough decision indeed.
Even though Drew Gooden is an underachiver, he is a prefer fit for Rockets as a Starting PF. We are not looking for an All-star. His career stats are as follows: PPG 12.3; RPG 7.7; and BPG 0.7 who is pretty good as a role player for Rockets. He is very consistent through his career in NBA. There is not much quality FA's PF this offseason and Gooden will definitely help the Rockets a lot. Rockets can do a S&T with Cleveland if Cleveland is willing.
If I was JL3 I would sign with the Suns. He has a much better chance to stick and play with them. Van Gundy will never play this kid and he choose to sign Rick Brunson over him last year.
Because they feel they are set at the pf. I would be willing to put some money that they are focused on backup point and then a 2 and then a 4-5. That is just the vibe i get and i truley believe it.
Thats funny but dont hate on alston. No i am not high but i put a 25% percent chance alston averages more assist than Nash. I think this is the year nash falls to the bottom of the heap.
LOL, yeah, but most of the people on this board will think our season is over if we don't sign him. Instead of worrying about borderline 3rd string PG, they need to go sign Marcus Banks and Fred Jones so our offseason will be DONE.
I think he's going to stick with us, because he says he wants to play here, and its his dream to play with the rockets wehre his father had played before. He's coming to us.
Do you mean Battier at 4? Are they really certain that Battier is up to the task at 4? IMO, I still think Rockets should at least try to acquired a starter at 4 to assist Yao. Juwan is purely offensive PF and I don't think he is good enough for a 'Win-Now' mode.
Offensively, Battier might be a superior option for the team at the 4 only because he spreads the floor making double teaming of Yao that much harder. Defensively, I think Battier can do a serviceable job of defending 4s, especially since many teams in the West dont have the traditional POWER forward. Also, Battier is probably one of the top 10 help defenders in the league. Howard does not stretch defenses nor does he provide very good help defense. He is good offensively from the paint compared to Battier, but does not do any of the other things Battier can do.
Right, that is why Rockets need another PF to replace Juwan. I might be wrong but I just don't think Juwan is good enough for next season. He had done well in 2004-2005 season until he was sidelined for heart problem. But from what I saw last season he has regressed, maybe it is just me.
I hope JL3 signs with us but like it was said before it will not be the end of the world if he doesnt. I think he has a much higher chance of playing time in Houston. Nash, Barbosa, and Bell are going to eat the bulk of the Suns guard minutes. With the Rox, JL3 will be competing with Alston, Head, Snyder and Sura. You cant earn a bigger contract sitting on the bench. As for cutting him last year there were other reasons, not that we liked Brunson more then JL3. I think it had to do with him being guaranteed money if he signed more then 2 ten day contracts or something like that. He didnt deserve guaranteed money last year, but he does this year. Hopefully he gets it from us. As for Gooden, I think he would be a nice fit with the Rox for about 6 mil a year. No way can or should offer him the 10 mil he wants and I would be afraid if he comes here and feels he is underpaid he wont work hard. Unless we can unload Juwan somehow I dont see any way Gooden gets here.
Who said I was hating on Alston? It's the truth. If you're a new player in the league, would you rather learn from the best or from Alston? Not to knock Alston, but he ain't no Nash.
And JVG is no Mike D’Antoni. JL3 will have a chance for playing time in Phoenix, and, barring injuries, virtually none in Houston.
That's true... D'Antoni has never won a conference championship and taken his team to the NBA finals.
That would be an interesting poll for the board -- how many would prefer JVG and how many would prefer D'Antoni as Rockets coach? I would vote for Mike -- at least we would grit our teeth less.
