I tend to let my sunglasses hang right above my chest hooked onto my shirt when indoors, and I've had several break when my kids come jump on me or hug me. I've had a pair drop into the urinal while taking a piss. I will never spend more than 10 bucks for a pair of sunglasses. All I care about is not squinting. The ones from the gas station look the same as the 200 dollar pair. Listen to ZZ Top on this one. Geez.
Got the Oakleys today, thanks for the advise everyone, repped those who tried to help. Fashion did not play a role into my decision in getting the Oakley's. Plenty of people pointed me towards getting a pair of Oak's for the quality build. I know the pair are not worth the $$$ paid, but when you get quality you sometimes have to overpay. At times I get a headache from driving in the sun too long, I'm surprised you have not run into anyone who has sensitive eyes. I don't even like wearing glasses on my face, I find it uncomfortable. I already had a pair of ray-bans I got as a gift but they were too dark. I needed a pair that would be safe to use when driving or biking, hence the "driving sunglasses". Spoiler
Yes, and I'd like to see how many of those people that are soooo worried about their eyes smoke, drink alcohol, go to the beach or a tanning booth to tan (while wearing sunglasses, no doubt. lol), etc. I'd like to see some stats on visual impairment among the Oakley car driving set vs. say roofers, 3rd world field workers, and bricklayers... I'm sure they're going blind by the minute since they're out in the open and we're in such danger inside our cars.
Well then, if it helps you avoid headaches, I can understand. I was just curious since I hardly knew anyone that wore them 10-20 years ago. Now? Everybody and their mother wears them. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention. Personally, my guess is that for 95% of people, it's a fashion thing, which is cool.
Ditto. One day you'll wake up and you won't think about spending more than $20 for a pair of sunglasses.
That's how I feel too... I buy super funky 5 dollar glasses... I want to buy some cheap Morpheus shades next, Muahhhhhhh...
You've never had a problem driving directly East in the morning or West in the evening? If I don't have my sunglasses on, it's difficult to see when the sun is directly in my face.
My drive right now is directly east/west on a freeway for about 10 miles of the trip. I haven't had problems - maybe it's the time of day I leave for work and come back. I can see how that would be a problem, but it hasn't really affected me.
I have dark tint on the top of my windshield for this. My $8 sunglasses from the gas station work just fine with this too. I break/lose them so often I wouldn't waste $200 on any. That's like 10 cases of beer!
wow. Never seen someone on such a high horse about sun glasses. (note that i did address the portion of the population that do wear galsses purely for cosmetics and that is silly)
I rarely wear sunglasses...my wife won't drive without them. She's much more sensitive to sunlight than I am. Of course she looks far better in them than I do, so I don't argue.
I spend less than that for my PRESCRIPTION sunglasses. I do look for deals, since regular price for prescription sunglasses is around that amount. I'm talking WITH the eye exam included in the price I drive with thick cheap dark glasses COVERING my regular glasses. I don't care how it looks.
I learned the hard way about eye issues. My eyes are going down the crapper now from never listening to my doctors about needing to protect them better. Eyes are more sensitive than we treat them, really. I think there is the fashion component to wearing sunglasses. But if people want to protect their eyes even in a fashionable sense, I can't really hold it MUCH against them anymore. (Now on FLIP FLOPS, thats where I'd agree with your opinion. I've only put on flips flops 3 times in my life, all before age 12. I try not to "knock it until I've tried it" but I find most people's validations for doing things related to fashion suspect lol)
All they do is block out blue light which scatters more, so it looks fuzzy. They call those blue blockers.
