are you suggesting the DL advocated, participated in or even led violent armed uprisings?

please...the chinese government (and every govt inthe world) is infinitely more violent than the DL or Buddhists, generally.

of course he did, are you kidding me? i've seen actually footages of monks with guns. of course, they were surrendering, but that's evidence right there. i've also seen, poor tibetans with legs, arms cut off by their slave masters. tons of torture on poor people. what people see here, are biased information. because most of the exiles are upper class. of course, PRC is also biased. but the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Drunks with Guns was an excellent band, from the DC area.

I especially liked their Wonderful Subdivision song.

Don't know about the gun stuff, but I've heard the slavery bits before. Michael Parenti maintains a page on slavery and class in Tibet. Penn & Teller also covered the slavery and class issues on their show Bull***t. The episode is called "Hollier than Thou."

Just to be clear here, the direction that this has gone is that because the Tibetians weren't perfect people (perhaps even bad people), they deserve to have their country invaded and their culture destroyed?

Most of the Native Americans weren't the pastoral hippies portrayed in the movies, but I dare you to try and say that they got what was comming to them.

Hell, the Qing Dynasty was corrupt as hell and full of very bad men. Guess that means you guys better thank the British for liberating Hong Kong, right?

Thankully in Today's tibet class is largely eliminated - they are ALL underclass to their Han majority overlords. Lucky tibetans!

They never had their own country, and we aren't destroying anyone's culture. That's what the Western media, who has a stake in bringing us down, tells you. I don't think there's ever been an accurate report of China coming from a newspaper of the US or UK.

    Parenti's argument:

The way I see it, the monk or non-monk status of the victims of China's actions does not lessen the immorality of those actions. What China is doing in Tibet is dispicable no matter who the target population happens to be... The new master is no better than the old one.

Yes, pumping in investment dollars to sustain their economy and going through all of the technical troubles to build them a freaking railway for the first time in history, one which will allow them to more easily sell stuff, is so horribly despicable. OMGZ we're making Tibet more prosperous!!!! DAMN REDS!!!!!

Seriously, when Western journalists try to write something about China, they can best be described as total trolls, and you think that the stuff coming out of other countries is propaganda.

Let me clue you in to something lad, what works in China - repeating scrubbed party sanctioned facts in contravention of reality endlessly until people believe them - does not work here.

thanks for the article. like i said, the truth is somewhere between the exiles and the government. as the article stated, the 1st dalai lama was createdy by chinese army. also, the slavery/class system is described. i'm sure that opened the eyes of many of you. the western media has created this image of "peaceful dalai trying to save tibet from communist". but in reality, the communist was saving the poor people from the outdated ruling system in tibet. tibet is in such a land locked area, there is no way they will survive without china's support. the real issue here is, how to exist peacefully with the han chinese. that will need some work. the whole destroying the tibetan culture thing, to me is BS. all culture evolves throughout time, if you are preserving the culture, then you'll be left behind. what the exiles are saying, to me, is actually restoring the old system where dalai is the emperior basically. they are presenting it in a nice way to fool foreigners for their support. there is NO WAY, that tibet will be democrazy if dalai is ruling. once again, it's opinion. the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Why bother debating this issue, everything can be said on this subject has already been said 1000 times. No one will change their mind. Just link up with one of the old threads and be done with it.
