The only player I would want from the Suns that we could get would be Rodney Rogers. Marion is untouchable, and if we deal to get him, we can say so long to Mobley. Rogers and Mobley coming off the bench would be awesome. If we could get Rogers for a combination with Drew that would be great. I wouldn't want Googs even if we could get him. First of all, he has a huge contract that he isn't worth, and with all his health problems lately, he might turn out like Jayson Williams and retire cause of the problems. That might be going to far, but Googs tore both Achilles and had a severe seizure within a span of 2 or 3 months. Plus he didn't produce as much as he was expected to even when he was healthy.
KT has good trade value? Ok, Ill just go along with that one. Freak, you wouldnt trade KT for Rodney? Wasnt it Rodney who beat out Cuttino for 6th man. Rodney has a solid game, all around.
It's obvious Bryce doesn't fit in with the Rocks anymore. Dealing him is fine but I don't want to give up too much. With the Suns it looks like we can get a good deal but remember Bryce is a backup point. Phoenix won't let any one big go in a deal for him. ------------------ I AM SPARTACUS
Bryce isnt even Backup PG for the Rox. Hes 3rd string. Actually, Id rather have Mobley playing the Point than Drew. Chalk him in for 4th string.
KT is a rookie who put up 8 pts and 6 boards, and you can tell he just knows how to play the game. I just have a feeling he is going to explode next year. He admittedly was not in shape last year. I just don't feel comfortable trading him for someone 7 years older who has most likely peaked. ------------------ Tell me I sold out, go ahead
I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Rockets need to keep Kenny. GO KT!!!! ------------------ I AM SPARTACUS
I think KT is going to have a really good year as well. Now that he has a year under his belt maybe the officials will see his hustle a little better and not call so many BS fouls on him. KT got the least respect in the league from the officials. They would call fouls on him while he was sitting on the bench! ------------------ The Wizard when asked about his WWJD bracelet: "It's my good luck charm. hoW About we throW in Walt Williams(for rex chapman compensation) and They give us marion? i think it would be ok with mobley then, we lose walt's contract.....they fill up TWO voids....we get a starter......trust me, the package looks better to them than to us.....
I was thinking more like: Houston gets: Rodney Rogers Suns get: Walt and Drew But i have a feeling the salaries won't match, unless we use the exemption. ------------------ Stuff BBS, the Rockets and you guys It's all Clippers these days, come join the bandwagon and visit http://www.ClippersCity.net
Can this work : KT, DREW and WIzard for Marion and Blount? ------------------ "I talked about what degenerates they [Mets fans] were, and they proved me right. Just by saying something, I could make them mad enough to go home and slap their moms." John Rocker
No it can't work cause we will keep Wizard!!!!!! ------------------ I'm tha hip hop attracta, rapper slash acta, right back at cha!
If we can give the suns Drew, Thomas and Williams for Rogers (+Chapman to match salaries?) then why would we not do it?? We need a SF who can play some defense and rebound a bit and score - that's Rodney Rogers!! We'd be able to just throw Rodney in to play Williams playing time at SF, and he's the same size as Thomas but a better defender and scorer, so if we wanted he could play time at PF - of course how Rodney Rogers could take playing time away from Collier and Langhi at PF is beyond me... ------------------
Hey, aren't we all forgetting the cap related issues? Rodney Rogers has a Shandon like contract. It expires in 02, and last year he made a small $2 million. It won't be much more than that next year. If there was a deal, I'd guess it'd be a 3 way, with a team who has a high priced player in their last year, and our side of the deal would be Drew going to Phoenix, and Walt going somewhere (either to Phoenix or another). The other teams would have to put out around 5.5 million in salary. Perhaps a team wanting Longley (around 5.5 mill next year)? (can't believe I just said that ). OK, here's an interesting one- Houston trades- Walt Williams (4.5 mill to Phoenix) Bryce Drew (1.2 to Phoenix) .5 million of trade exception (to Phoenix) Phoenix trades- Luc Longley (5.8 million) (to Detroit) Randy Livingston (about 400K) (to Detroit) Detroit trades- Christian Laettner (a little over 6 mill) (to Houston) the numbers are close, very close. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
Laettner?! 12.2 ppg/6.7 rpg/0.55 bpg/and one big @$$ ego, all at the tender young age of 31 at the beginning of next season?! Say it with me: Youth Movement. Thanks, but I think I'll just take my chances with Collier and Langhi ------------------
Well, I'm one of the supporters of getting Marion. I don't pay a lot of attention to Phoenix but I did actually see quite a bit of them last year, not on purpose though but I was thouroughly impressed with Marion. I believe the guy is about 6'7 or 6'8 which is good size for the small forward, but what I noticed is he is a runner. He was getting up and down the court with Jason and Penny. In fact his bio on nba.com said that he is known for his athleticsm. He also blocks a lot of shots for his position and rebounds very well for a small forward. I checked on NBA.com and saw that he shot just under 85% on free throws. When I saw him play, he was also impressive with his outside shot, eventhough his 3-point % isn't too impressive. I guess in summation, he could be called a poor mans Tracy McGrady, but he probably doesn't have the ball handling ability or the assist numbers of McGrady. Rogers is very good too and at 29, isn't too old but by the time this team is ready to contend for a championship, he'll be on the downside of his career. Sure, the man was awesome last year but I'm thinking Rudy wants the team's integral parts to be young so they can grow and learn together. Keep in mind that this guy is 21 and has a ton of upside and is probably improved leaps and bounds since last year and that Phoenix has no center and would probably want Cato or Mobley in return. If we were able to swing a trade for Marion w/o giving up Mobley and/or Cato, any of our draft picks and to a lesser extent, Kenny Thomas, then I'd do it in a heart beat but I don't see that happening. I know some have talked about Gerald Wallace or Terrence Morris to fill our small forward spot next year but if we can get our franchise small forward now w/o losing the afromentioned players, then I think it would be a good idea. Remember, some say that since Drew was a backup, it makes his stock lower, well keep in mind, Marion was also a reserve for most of the season and started some games when Googs went out so since they both are "reserves", it's not like we are trading for a starter, eventhough he will become one with us ------------------
Launch Pad-No, I'm not a Laettner fan . The whole point of the deal would be to get a guy in the last year of his contract, which Laettner is. So, we get rid of a 6.3 million troll on our cap next year in Walt, and we get about 20 million under the cap next year. That would be more than enough to make Webber, and four first rounders very happy people . I think just about everyone here would love to have Marion, but it'd take something involving at least Cato to pry him from the Suns. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
Why does everyone keep setting their sights so narrowly on Webber? Don't forget, Hill will be a free agent again next year as well. ------------------ The Wizard when asked about his WWJD bracelet: "It's my good luck charm. It stands for 'Walt Williams Just Doin' it'."
Umm, Dogbelly-Hill is a free agent this year. And until he signs a one year contract, which won't happen if Duncan goes to Orlando (he'll follow), he's still a free agent this year. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
A couple of things: 1. Drew has considerably more value than some have proposed both here and on other threads. He would/should start on some teams. However, that being said, I would not hold my breath waiting on a Rodgers for Drew staright up trade. The Suns are not even remotely stupid enough to do that. 2. This Googs talk has got to stop, it's ruining my appetite. Googs will make some team pay him for a little longer just to suit up and sit on the bench moaning in pain. Then he will retire within two years due to medical reasons (Read: Generalized body failure.) 3. Christain Laettner had a brain fart when he was in Atlanta. The smell lingers. Let the boy air out up North. Nuff said. 4. The "New Rockets" have a game plan that includes: athletic (not necessarily fast), tall, rangy, multi-talented, coachable (excluding Cato,of course) young men, who either are defensive shooters or aggressive scorers. They are committed to that model. Expect trades or any roster changes to be aimed in that direction. 5. It appears, to my utter disgust, that Walt will be here at least on opening day. The Rockets had more than ample opportunity to unload his sorry arse prior to the draft and did not pull the trigger. If they balked then, I would not look for a Walt (and Drew or anyone else) inclded in a package for just anyone. It is assumed a great "close to blockbuster" deal may be able to pry him loose, but all this other stuff, unpleasantly, is just wishful thinking. 6. The Rockets reputation around the league is firmly entrenched. The draftees that worked out love the organizations committment and their straight forward appreoach to the game. No BS. In short, we are trusted. That means a lot to a kid just out of college, but it may be even more attractive to some Free Agents that been bounced around the league. In short, I guess I am saying that there are a lot of Free Agents who would REALLY LIKE to play for this organization. I know some teams claim this affinity also .... it just happens to be true here. Although I will not name anyone specific, I have been told of some (FA) players that have let it be know that they would play here for a "little less" than they may get anywhere else. Cool Stuff! ------------------ [This message has been edited by oeilpere (edited July 03, 2000).]
