This is simply not true. I suppose Mac Mclung is also still a rookie. Rookie means this is your very first year in the league. You are experiencing the rigors of the season for the first time including practices, playing reg seaaon ganes, learning the system and culture of the team and league etc. Reed has already had a full year of this under his belt. Being injured and out all year in your rookie season like Greg Oden is a different story. But I agree in terms of playing thru mistakes. Learn and get better
Reed is not a player that's going to win playing pick up style basketball. He's not a great one on one player either. Saying all that, I do believe in him in terms of getting 20 minutes a game off the bench in a specific role playing with other disciplined players.
u don’t need to be a great one on one player to ball out against nameless, faceless scrubs that aren’t even NBA caliber
The other 4 players that are playing with Reed are what you are describing too though. So, that puts Reed in a disadvantage when you are looking at what Reed truly is at this point. Reed is already undersized too so he has to be an elite ball handler and anticipate/react on a elite level as well. Reed just needs to really lock in on being consistent defensively. Otherwise, Aaron Holiday will get the minutes.
Y’all really blaming teammates for a 2nd year player who was the 4th overall pick not playing well against absolute no-name bums? He needs good teammates for a level of competition that’s this low? I could blame some of the turnovers on his teammates being bad, but he needs help to get buckets on a bunch of nobodies?
Yeah, Green was inefficient for 4 years and still people wanted "more time", because "he is still basically a rookie", and "he is about to turn the corner and become the next Michael Jordan" lol. Yet, here is a true kid, still considered a rookie by the NBA until next season officially starts, and a couple of SL games of bad efficiency with absolute nobodies and these same people excusing Jalen after 4 years want to get rid of Reed after only just 1. Ridiculous and just stupidly biased.
Outside his play, I don't like how much Reed was complaining to the refs and his body language was dejected and poor. Their was one play where he was pushed and probably fouled but he just glared at the ref and then bricked a contested 3 immediately after out of frustration. Childish behavior.
I think we just need to be prepared for this to be a couple year process of him becoming the starting point guard. I definitely believe in where I think it’s going to end up, but there are plenty of players that were drafted after him where they returns would be more immediate if that makes sense.
Most of his shots came up short. Like he had tired legs. Whatsupwithdat? Vegas? Looked like he'd been playing a string of back to backs at the end of the season.
Too early to tell. We don’t know what he will become. Could have a very productive season. He has some bad habits he has to clean up.
I mean he's being asked to be a full-time Nba point guard when he really wasn't one in college. That's a huge... bigtime transition. To me it's pretty simple. He will struggle as the player you feature to successfully and consistently bring the ball up and run the show right now... even in NBA summer league at this point. Being 3rd pick overall pick in the draft is irrelevant to me because I just look at him for what he is versus where the Rockets selected him.
he is only being asked to play well against non-NBA caliber scrubs being a top pick comes with a level of expectations…u shouldn’t need NBA caliber guys around u to not be trash against guys u wouldn’t be able to pick out of a lineup Reed is a top 4 pick, but seems to have the expectations of a late 1st rounder/early 2nd round pick…for some reason, this wasn’t the case with Jalen, Jabari, or Amen
The organization punted on the draft, and they've basically quit on summer league. This is a veteran team now, and they have made that VERY clear. Reed needs to be better. He better grow up fast. Still it's kinda unfair that he has to play with this roster full of garbage.
I just don't see him playing well consistently at point guard right now. That's why I say if he played with better teammates it would help bail him out in situations where he has to be a real point under pressure. None of these summer league guys can help and him being barely over 6 feet and lacking that aggressive attacking dominant play. He will struggle... now if he he's running around as undersized 2 or 3 catching and shooting cool. He looks better. I know it sounds like I'm blaming his teammates but I'm only pointing out that they make a difference too. Ariza being the man in Houston when he first came versus the Ariza we got with CP3 and Harden was a difference. Reed is just not Jalen, Jabari or Amen... all those guys are 6'6 or taller. I know you know that but Reed is a undersized 2 guard being asked to run point. None of those other guys were in that situation. Amen being a point being asked to play the 2 or 3 is easier hell working on shooting is a lot easier than asking a young man to be a #3 caliber player at point guard when he is really a 2.
