Also, Lonnie Baxter was the MVP of the 2003 Rocky Mountain Revue (for Bulls, I think), so he's had success in summer league play.
Did some digging on these guys...it's a start... Cory Violette, Gonzaga 11.7 ppg, 9.0 rpg This 6-8 bruiser reminds scouts of Mark Madsen, though not quite as tall or mean. Had a slow start this week, but picked it up over his last two games, capping his tourney with a 23-point, 10-rebound performance. Shows decent range on his jumper. Worth a look for a team in need of someone to bang. http://www.nba.com/news/pit_040412.html Hollis Price, OU Strengths: Has become a more assertive scorer this season ... Possesses a very quick release on his shot, and is dangerous regardless of how much room he gets ... Has serious 3-point range on his shot and, like Iverson, is capable of getting off shots with very little daylight... Has matured into a steady leader for his team ... Clutch player who you don't want to foul at the end of a game as he is an excellent free throw shooter ... Unlike many pure shooters, Price is also capable of taking his man off the dribble ... Defensively he has the lateral quickness to keep up with most players ... Shows solid anticipation skills when playing passing lanes ... Has a great feel for the game and the kind of work ethic coaches love ... Clutch player who wants the ball in his hands when the game is on the line ... Plays under control rarely is he careless with the ball ... Weaknesses: At this point in his career Price lacks the point guard skills to run a pro offense ... Doesn't have the superior court vision to create consistent scoring opportunities for teammates ... Needs to add bulk to his wiry body frame and increase his upper body strength ... Doesn't always put the ball on the floor and attack the basket ... Jump shot can go through periods of streakiness but to his credit he has improved a great deal ... If he plays the shooting guard position in the NBA he will have huge problems defensively ... Needs to be more effective moving without the ball in his hands ... Doesn't always finish when driving to the lane after contact occurs which can be improved with added muscle ... Can at times become too perimeter oriented and settle for way too many 3-point attempts ... http://nbadraft.net/profiles/hollisprice.htm William Avery, Duke http://www.basketballreference.com/players/playerpage.htm?ilkid=AVERYWI01 Pat Carroll http://sjuhawks.collegesports.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/062205aac.html Lonnie Baxter http://www.btgraphix.com/nba/index.asp?table=all&edSeachInput=&id=3641 David Bluthenthall http://www.btgraphix.com/nba/index.asp?table=all&edSeachInput=&id=3881 Never saw the last btgraphix.com site before and it looks like it gave the same description for both.
I seem to remember Lonny Baxter being pretty successful his first year in the league with the Bulls. I would think he could find somewhere to play next year.
Here are brief breakdowns and photos of all of the players on the roster. http://www.clutchfans.net/news.cfm?NewsID=1227
there's some pretty well known college names on this list from several very successful teams. hopefully a few can pan out. i've heard a lot of people talk about hayes being a possible steal as an undrafted FA. i would love to see him excel and make the squad. i'm still hoping vspan comes to his senses and tries his luck here, so we can at least get a comparison on his skills. i remember dawson saying that they were hoping they'd get both badiene and vspan to play the summer league; let's hope they can convince him.
Question: If one or more of these players, with the exception of Luther and Malick, have an incredible showing at the summer leagues, do the Rockets have first rights to sign them? If so, is that because we invited them to our summer league team? Thanks in advance, Chris
Not a bad squad at all. Better than the "I'm doing Tubby a favor and adding Saul Smith" team from a few years back. Or the one where Langhi was supposed to be the go-to guy. I'm curious to see Pat Carroll. This guy could be a taller Steve Kerr, or he could be a complete dud. I'd love to have a dead-eye 40% 3 pt shooter to bring in for a few minutes a game...
how about this starting line-up C= Malick Badiane PF=Chuck Hayes SF=David Bluthenthal SG=Norm Richardson PG=Luther Head
