Here are some pictures from the game last night. I didn't have the best camera in the world however I was under the basket. Talked to Joey Dorsey and he said he wanted to be out there so bad however it's business. Donte Green was cool talked to us. He is very vocal on the court and I overheard him calling Lopez soft. He is very relaxed on the court and shoots at will. He has a fluid shot with great range and can put it on the floor. One play he went up to dunk however got undercut but was about to tear the rim down. The Rockets have no size and Mike Harris was the only one competing on the boards. I ask Mike what did he worked on this summer and he said it was a secret. I said Mike either you can take someone or you can't he said that's true. Obliviously he has worked on his 3 point shot and range over all. Seems to be in tip top shape and very strong. Dorsey had a tank top on before the game and is ripped. He was into the game pumping everyone up and was upset that they where not playing defense and getting rebounds. Brooks just looks to be coasting and trying to figure something out (lol). I can't wait for Wednesdays Game. Summer League Photos July 14, 2007
My takes from what I saw... 3 guys stood out above the rest. Leunen - B+ He impressed me the most although I would of liked him to make more outside shots. I do not know much about him but I thought I read that he was in the mold of a Novak... but he does so much more (even if we are talking about Summer League). He was a lot more active on defense... moving his feet and guarding good enough in the post against the likes of Lopez, putting effort into the boards and was efficient on the offensive end. Whether that was setting picks and spotting up in the open spot, it was done right in my opinion. He showed a lot more athletic ability that I originally thought going in. Now hes not great, and all of this is compared to Novak, but I was impressed by the guy especially if he can hit the outside shot. Greene - B You can not discount the 40pts that was scored but I am going to take a more nit-pick approach to him. I did not catch the 1st quarter so I am basing my opinion off of the box score and the last 3 quarters. Obviously a good stroke from the outside but I did not see enough of anything else. There was too many times he was lazy on defense and especially on the boards. I took note in Harris and Leunen battling for rebounds and Greene standing and watching. I never saw him make any plays on defense but I guess that can be a good thing or a bad thing. His passing and handles are good at times but Ill have to assess that after watching more. Harris - B You got from him what we have come to expect. Undersized but it dosnt stop him from playing defense down low or getting more than his fair share of rebounds. I was surprised by the outside shot, although not pretty looking, but it was going in. I thought the same thing last summer and during the reg. season, his shot was off. I would like to see him guarding the perimeter some. Brooks - C Overall disappointed by him from one game. He showed, and we know, he can score at will but he just did not look like him self. Probably from trying to do more of what he wants to improve on and what the coaching staff wants to see from him. Ill give him the rest of the Summer League to see what he has in the form of being a "leader" on the court... These opinions are based on my overall expectations and what I knew about them going into Summer League.
I thought that the Rockets played fairly well. I too think Greene shot too many outside shots and did not attack the basket enough, but hey, he made them, so......I just wonder if he keeps chucking on the nights that he is not making them..... Brooks needs to stop trying to be something he is not, and be the "Calvin Murphy" of this team......a smallish SG that can also handle the ball, but is a scorer first....we can use him in that role....ala BJax in Sacremento. Mike Harris.....you have to keep Mike Harris, someone that competes that hard, night in and night out and plays so smart, and can make shots......he is valuable as a third backup 3/4.....a power 3, or a quicker 4......I like him a lot. Robinson played well under control but his shot is suspect, he looked much more in charge as a PG.....a natural position, and he actually would be the most natural PG on the entire roster if he makes it....which to me depends entirely on Steve Francis' rehabilitation..... Luenan was better than I thought, not the most athletic, but not afraid to put it on the floor as the defender closed out and go to the rack.....some seasoning in Europe and we may have a sleeper keeper in a couple of years.... I do want to see Dorsey but understand why he is not playing...and Morey's hands are tied by the Landry situation, which is Morey's fault to begin with... Anyway, looking forward to Wed. DD
Remember he's from Baltimore. We tend to talk a lot on the court. Sam Cassell anyone? Joey Dorsey? Players from Baltimore tend to be very confident. Sometimes too much
you know I thought the same thing but he was 11/12 from the free throw line... that has to say he was doing more than expected. Even so I still agree he needs to attack more since has the tools to do so...
I've got to say that after seeing the highlights, the Suns's defence at the very end was terrible, how did they let the opponents score an uncontested layup! Thank god the Rockets managed to take advantage of it.
I definantly witnessed Green has a very calm demeanor on the court. Very controlled, confident. It's pretty impressive being that he's a rookie. I mean maybe that will all change once he has to match up with seasoned NBA vets, but he showed alot out there last night. Nice stroke, nice composure, above average athleticism, good length....not so great intensity on defense and rebounding, but that's something that can be coached. His offensive talents and skills are very unique.
nope 2nd i believe. he was horrible in his first game. but prollie jitters going against derrick rose and playing his first real game as an NBA player
dorsey is a prima donna already huh? it's a chance to prove yourself but he wants a contract. play to earn your contract son.
I don't think they are archiving the summer league games this year. Though we get to see the ones played on NBAtv about a million times.
The Rockets game should be up soon on nba.com; they have already archived all of the games except Phoenix vs. Houston and San Antonio vs. Memphis.
Dorsey most likely follows his agent's advice. But it's weird though. Most 2nd round picks get the insurance and play summer league before they have their contracts.
