Novak's been playing well, hope we sign him atleast! (Thank you Isiah or should i say Maurice Taylor )
While height isn't that important at the point guard position, JLIII makes up for his shortness with incredible speed (if he entered the NBA today, he just might be the fastest point guard in the entire league). I've seen this kid run ... once I saw him cut from the wing about 30 feet out to the basket in barely a second. He's freakishly fast sometimes. His biggest liability in his short stint with us last year was lack of confidence in his shot (and thus poor personal offensive production), but he did do a great job of running the offense. That's why it's encouraging to see great improvements in his offensive game.
Looks like Novak can shoot the ball, but more importantly, KNOWS he can shoot the ball. Got to have confidence to play in the NBA. DD
I agree with you that height is not much of a concern on the offense side but I think it would be a burden on the defense side.
The other 3 summer league haven't started so there isn't much to report yet. The Las Vegas league has over half the teams in the NBA but most rosters haven't played so far.
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/4032550.html It does not sound like JVG agrees with your assesment of his quickness. I do think that he could become a very good point guard though. Avery Johnson came up through one of the developemental leagues...I think it was the CBL so JLIII could be a diamond in the rough. He certainly comes from a good basketball blood line.
DD, the "confidence" thing I think is huge. That's something Boki never had. That's something that Luther had from all of his NCAA tournament experience. It's crucial!
Ah I didn't realize that. It will be interesting to see how those guys compare when they finally all see action.
The way the league is moving towards, with perimeter players being untouchable, a guy like JL3 definitely has the ability to make the NBA. With his innate quickness off the dribble, if he can pull-up or toss in floaters like the reports are saying then he'll have a role in the league. I could see him being an energizer/third PG type for us. Coming off the bench and flying around and providing us energy.
i think that carrol guy is just hot. He might make the preseason team. novak had an offnight, i can tell by his missing FT. We need to sign JLIII. he is kicking ass, looks like he can match up with randy foye. This years' top rookies are really mediocre. if guys like joey graham declared this year, he should be a top 5 pick.
I also have a mancrush on Ginobli, Battier, T. Prince & Harpring. I like hustle players who do more for their team than just flash, and yes....all races, which is what you were rudely insinuating. DD
Langhi is jealous . .and no longer talking to you On the real This guy is looking good .. i know it is summer league but I'd rather he dominate here. .than not dominate here I seriously seriously SERIOUSLY JVG doesn't get in his head and f*** up his shot and his confidence. . . I dunno . . we get shooters. . then all of a sudden cannot shoot [See PiaKowski ] Rocket River
I was expecting Darius Washington to emerge and make the roster but if Lucas plays like this(ok i know it's just a summer league) he definitely deserves that 3rd pg place.
I watched Lucas dominate the NBDL, and when he got called up to the Rockets he was just getting his confidence going...He is an NBA point guard, and could be our number 2 easily. Someone in the Earl Boykins mold to come in and change the tempo and create open looks with his speed.....we should definitly sign him. DD
For Rox, the key to PG defense is to prevent penetration. With his speed, I am sure he can improve the "defensive quickness" JVG is referring to. It is more a matter of training than physical deficiency.
