Let me explain...so we are all not confused.....i mean rippin in the sense that....People are nit pickin the guy and he is not just playin well but dominating in a big fashion and makin some of the lottery picks look just like that, lottery picks.........The kid made Mr. NBA READY himself look like a college kid....and Mr. aldridge....not to mention he did most of his damage against a pure athletic-freak specimen in Martell webster who was assigned to try and slow him down

The kid is havin a better summer league than most of the top 10 picks who are also playin against the same lower level of competition and he is comin out smellin like a rose....................If the competition is that frickin bad than everyone would be scorin like K.G. and Kobe.......but they are NOT

The kid is the M.V.P. of the summer league thus far and showin some skills we didn't know he had(cuts to the basket, dribble fakes, great post feedin)...............Steve novak............WELCOME TO THE ROCKETS AND KEEP IT UP SO EVERYONE WILL SHUT THE........never mind

Not if some euro team offers him twice the money Rockets does.

Ahhhh I can't wait for the season to start. I can't wait to see Novak hitting all these open shots. He should adopt the, "I'm gonna make every team who passed on me regret it," quote because he's gonna be lightin' it up. You guys remember how UNSTOPPABLE the Rockets were 2 seasons ago when T-Mac and Yao were both healthy AND the Rockets shooters were hitting their 3s at the same time?

When the core is healthy and the shooters are making 3s, THE HOUSTON ROCKETS CANNOT BE BEATEN! Battier will hit 'em. Novak will hit 'em. I hope to death we get Mike James, and he will hit 'em. I really hope the X-Factor, Bob Sura comes back - he will hit 'em. Tracy McGrady, oh my God, is he gonna hit 'em. GET EXCITED, ROCKETS FANS!

This IS summer league. We know what Lucas is capable of and if he is the MVP of summer league so far, we really shouldn't take it seriously.

Novak only had 2 rebounds in the game. If he's going to see any significant minutes at PF, that needs to improve. I don't know if he's quick enough to guard SFs (remember, JVG was reluctant to play Padgett at SF for that very reason).

Ya, that would be a tough rotation to break into especially if VG plays Battier at the 3 & Tmac at the 2. Basically, thats a lot of coin fighting for PG & backup SG duties.

If Lucas can prove he deserves to have a spot on the roster(for cheap) he could provide great value by allowing us to dump a proven guy like Alston/James/Sura at the trade deadline for a another need(namely PF). I bet the Rockets put him on the roster and bring him along slowly to see if they can play that card mid season this year depending on how well Lucas plays.

...by the way - great to hear of the news of Novak. This is very encouraging for a team that was offensively r****ded last year(I know, I know...injuries...). You got to think though that for a set shooter like Novak these results are a good sign because in a real NBA game teams aren't going to be able to take that much away from a shooter like that when he shares the floor with two All Stars. It's not like his offensive success depends on him quickly reading defenses and reacting where a real NBA game would be quicker than a NBDL game. He just has to space the floor and wait for the ball movement to come to him. The only thing that will hold him back is if he has to get a few shots to "warm up". He will be forced to make the most of 3-5 shots in a game coming off the bench....

    Eh, I don't think it's that big of a deal. He'll be a rich man's Matt Bullard.

Novac is a tall Shooting Guard with a special ability, he can hit the three point shot with a high degree of accuracy. The Rockets should thank God for their good fortune to have selected him so far down ther draft. If he can get himself open and the ball is passed out to him he could become a killler part of the team. By the end of the next season he should be considered the sleeper of the Draft. By then it won't matter what his position is called, he will be known as the Rocket's great outside shooter :p JVG will have to change his tune as the new Rockets will be known as an great offensive team as well as a good defensive team, so he will need to play players because of their offensive powers.

Alright well not one single euro team is going to offer Novak enough money to get him out of Houstons training camp this fall. No team in any other league will offer him enough to make him not come to the Rockets and sign a standerd 2nd round rookie contract.

You said people were 'ripping him a new one'. That's not happening. People are simply stating a fact; a lot of players have dominated in summer league play, and then done nothing at the NBA level. It happens all time. You shouldn't be so sensitive.

Just a summer league game, but nice to see the Rockets win and doing well.

The fact that Novak is picking up where he left off in college is good to see. The "speed" of the game isnt effecting his shot or the ability to get off shots. In short spurts off the bench for the Rockets Novak could be very deadly. Novak is exactly the type of guy one wants as a "rotational" player off the bench and to get him in the 2nd round is good value.

JL3? Sounds like he is playing great. If the Rockets get Mike James (with Alston already on board) I can see the Rockets looking to offer JL3 a contract and be our 3rd PG. JVG says he wants to have 3 PGs on the roster and perhaps we can afford to bring up a young PG with our PG rotation already set. I think he has a good chance. I think we can forget about Darius Washington. JL3 is just too advanced right now. I dont think Washington is going to do anything that is going to have the Rockets thinking they should consider him over JL3.

No-one rebounds that well from the 3p line. Hayes does well because he sits down in the post. Howard sits away about at the foul line and as soon as someone shoots he releases and heads back on defense - probably his Gundy assignment.

Also the team shot 60% - after Hayes and Harry@$$ got 12 rb's there weren't a whole lot more left to get.

I think we found our sharpshooter and spark-plug off the bench. give him 15 to 20 minutes a night and see him knock down tray after tray. at #32 we hit the jackpot.

My understanding is that while Novak isn't exactly a great rebounder, in his college career he rebounded at a fairly reasonable rate for a long-range shooting forward (around 5 a game I think). In the game against UConn, he posted 41 points and 16 boards IIRC. Rudy Gay on the other hand...let's not talk about it (something like 8 points on 3-12 shooting or so).

Ok, I am liking some of what we are seeing early in Training Camp.. looks like a good pickup on Novak, and I thought it was a bad idea to have released JL3 last year, I thought he deserved to stay on the team just as much as Hayes did..

Anyway, it's nice to see these stats and performances from our own team so far, but some context would make it really special.

In particular, I would be very interested to see comparisons between Novak's performances/minutes alongside Redick's and Gansey's, and maybe Douby's, Roy's, and, just for grins, stick Gay's in there as well. Oh and Morrison's too.

Is there any way anyone can do that?

Exactly the same thing I have in mind. Rafer Alston, Mike James, Bob Sura, and now John Lucas III. Damn, how could you resist JLIII given his performance in this summer league? However, none of them are tall and probably this is one thing we should worry about.
