Dorsey's looking more like a PF than a C each passing game...

I am impressed with Dorsey's rebounding and defense in the SL. If we don't land a solid starting center but rather a solid backup...what are the odds that Dorsey is our starting center this season.

I would have laughed at the thought a few weeks ago, but right now I'm wondering if he could anchor a mean defensive minded NBA team. I don't mind us scoring in the low 80's as long as our oppenents are in the 70's. ;)

Looking kinda like a bulkier Mr Mean out there (Larry Smith). Under height PF/C but plays strong and gritty against anybody. If Dorsey can show 3/4 of his SL performance in the preseason he just might get minutes on this team.

Or 2 more solild SL games and decent preseason and maybe he becomes trade bait packaged along with Brian Cook or Barry to get them outta here

Nope... not ready but he is better. His defense has improved he is already a much better offensive player than Hayes and probably better rebounder and definitely better shot blocker shoots free throws better(still bad). I actually even witnessed him slapping at some balls ala Chucky. SO he is definitely headed in the right direction.

I think he could play some backup center minutes but not much help at the 4 with Scola and Landry. Still he is at least worth some hard fouls at the center spot.

I agree he has more potential than chuck, but I still doubt he will be smarter than chuck.

Chuck has maximized his potential at this point in his NBA career, and he has a great court awareness and knowledge of the game.

Dorsey definitely has a higher ceiling, it's just a matter of how he develops on the offensive end of the court. He has been working on adding a hook shot to his arsenal, and he has flashed glimpses of it during the summer league. He has proven that he can crash the boards and throw his body around in the paint, but the last thing we need is a big man who can't contribute offensively. Teams will take advantage of that by doubling down on our swingmen and fowards, basically leaving Dorsey to shadow Ariza, Scola, Brooks, etc. for helpside defense, as they do when Chuck is on the floor.

Dorsey is much more capable than Chuck offensively, though.

I think Chuck and Dorsey can both coexist imho.

Chuck is more a lateral, big bodied defender with a low center and that allows to move pretty well against the quicker forwards/centers in the game.
Dorsey is more of a vertical/shot blocking defender. He can be a fantastic weak side defender but as far as individual defense goes, he still has a LOT of learn about defensive position in the post though. But athletically he should be able to hang with the best of them.

Both have zero offensive game, although Chuck has an amazing touch around the rim and has some offensive versatility in that he is an excellent screener because of his wide body and he knows how to get open.
Dorsey on the other hand, needs to work on his touch and basically has no moves with the ball in his hand unless he is right underneath the basket. He doesn't have the knack for being at the right spot at the right time for receiving passes in the post, which along with his lack of offensive skills puts him as a liability on offense.

Bottom line: The way the team is in flux right now, especially at the forward/center positions it wouldn't hurt to have two defensive minded post players right now that can complement Scola.

Somehow that sounds really sad that we are sorta depending on Scola now...... :(

I would put Dorsey ahead of Hayes for the fact that Dorsey is getting a lot of free throws with limited touches.

Anyone can get a lot of free throws is an offensive threat and will put a lot pressure on opponents.

First let me say intelligent post, I can always apreciate that even if I don't agree. And I do not agree completely. Yes Chuck is much better laterally and Dorsey will doubtfully ever be as good but I do believe he can improve. Also chuck was good at slashing to the basket when his man double teamed Tmac and sometimes Yao. I see no reason Dorsey can not do the same. As for Chuck around the basket he was terrible unless wide open, I watched many a time he missed open layups. Already I have seen Dorsey put up some baby hooks in traffic and he is a better monster jam type player that Chuck will never be. He is also a better free thrower.

So I think he is already a better offensive player albeit still average at best. But he will improve and if he can improve his lateral defense he could be a real contributor on this team. That is a big if and lets face it players like Chuck and Dorsey better put 110% effort on defense are we have little use for them. But already I have seen some improvements on defense. He needs to work harder so lets see if he can. I look forward to watching his defense in the last 2 summer league games and pre season camp.

Yes I missed that point but it is so true... Which is why I was surprised to hear Morey say he is not in their plans. Which may just mean at the center spot he is behind Hayes Scola and the Center they trade for. I would say he is still pretty behind Hayes on defense.

Joey's biggest problem, from my perspective, is boneheaded plays. He makes a lot of them defensively. That's one thing you rarely get from Chuck if ever. Dorsey's main skill offensively is to dunk. He doesn't really have a lot of post moves (though I will say I liked his one hook shot - but I don't expect it regularly) and he doesn't really seem to have the same passing skills as Chuck out of the high post.

I think he will get some serious time in training camp - depending on who Morey trades for to help out at the center position.

I do think he looks much improved from last years summer league, but that isn't saying much. I have been very impressed in his activity on the boards however.
