Sumlin at A&M is a bad choice if true, both for the school and Sumlin. Better to be a big frog in a small pond than a small frog in a big pond. A&M in the SEC West is a disaster waiting to happen, years of bottom feeding. And the NCAA should have rules about coaching changes, no firings or hirings until after the bowls are completed and no tampering. The Sumlin speculation ruined the season for UH and costed them millions. I have watched them play every game and they never looked as distracted as they did today. It is not fair to the kids or the school to have their coaches pirated before they even finish the season.
In general, I agree. But isn't the reason that it affects recruiting? When a team fires a coach, they want to get their replacement in as soon as possible to get ready for next season. How much would A&M be affected if they weren't allowed to hire a coach until after January 9 when signing day is February 1?
I agree, and I am not picking on Sumlin or A&M because they are following the current rules. Still, I don't think it is right to call or negotiate with a coach during the season.... but the rule won't change because the larger schools like being able to poach coaches and the coaches like it because it means more money for them.
But consider the recruiting position of the pirated school, it is even worse. The process is simply unfair.
4-5 - I believe according to the book of Reveille, which, btw is french for "re-va-lee", and pronouced "hra-vay-uh"...............black aggies have to be reincarnated again as white aggies and then die before they can ascend unto the great collie heaven beneath Kyle.
I think the sooner the better for the pirated school. If UH didn't know they were losing their coach until January, it just makes it even more difficult for them to conduct a search. The quicker you get coaches shuffled, the better for everyone.
And it would be even worse if your coach was hired away after the season. Again, imagine if teams couldn't hire new coaches until after the championship game. Imagine A&M still hires Sumlin, only now UH has to initiate a coaching search 3 weeks before signing day. That's a worse recruiting position than having your coach hired away the beginning of December. It sucks regardless, but you're in a better position if you have more time to bring in a new coach.
No coach goes in thinking that he is going to fail. A&M is a good job, but there is no question it will be brutal competing against LSU, Alabama, Auburn, and Arkansas.
MarkBermanFox26 Mark Berman L.A. Times reports UCLA's athletics director in Houston today to meet with UH head coach Kevin Sumlin about becoming the Bruins next coach.
You know, I have no problem with jokes, but some are misapplied pretty badly. And it's not like UT is some ideal of racial harmony either. There's a difference between diversity and harmony.
hahahaha....thats just wrong...but probably 2-3 losses...lol...i dk..i still want an SEC coach...but i guess we shall see.
Why do you want an SEC coach? Nick Saban (LSU), Les Miles, and Urban Meyer weren't SEC coaches when they got hired.
I agree ... I honestly believe it is almost a craps shoot whoever gets picked ... Just gotta get that right guy to get the ball rolling. I just want to see someone on the sidelines with a little more fire after 20 years of the stoic "old guy"
Pac 12 is a better fit for Sumlin and that offense. If he can recruit there he'll do well. I'd like to see UCLA become relevant again.
TAMU should get Mack if he's fired -- ha. But if TAMU stays true to form, expect them to name the hiring of college football's first female head coach on Monday.
