My sister used to work for a vet and she had told me that part of the price difference is for pain meds. Everyone will use pain meds, but a cheap operation will use a somewhat less effective one. But, your dog is tough, right?
http://www.houstonhumane.org/spayandneuter.aspx way better deal there. Sometimes they run free specials. yesterday for instance it was free for cats. They say ont he site only need blood work for 5-7 year old dog.
Eeh, yeah sounds like it...do you give him exercise? i keep bo crated when we are at work so nothing is destroyed...we will not let him to roam alone until he's 1 year old or old enough to not destroy anything. A crate really helps with separation anxiety. You should consider doggy day care once a week for him in order for him to release pent up energy. thats what we get for having a high energy dog.
He hasn't met a crate he can't destroy, this includes a ten foot by ten foot chain link kennel in the back yard, he is the boxer Houdini except there is no question how he pulls the trick. You can just look at the destruction he leaves behind and know how he did it.
just go to a dog park and let him to run around once or two times a week and walk him everyday...sounds like frustration/pent up energy to me.
flirt pole spring pole If you have a dog that has excess energy and you're too lazy to walk them (like me) or take them to the dog park (I hate dog parks) then either of these tools can help burn off the extra energy. The flirt pole is probably the best and you can make one for about $5.
I've tried dog parks and I feel bad because he wasn't properly socialized he plays rough... flirt pole, should I feel unsafe googling that at work?
not sure if you can watch youtube at work but here is someone using one. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/LEfg4X_EgqY&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LEfg4X_EgqY&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Humane Society or SNAP are fine. We've had hundreds of dogs spayed at places like that. There is no reason to pay more for it - any pain medication you get there is fine as well. Vets charge a lot more for a variety of reasons; they have more expenses, they want to make more, they need to get a return on their education investment, and ultimately, yes, they are "better" - more qualified to deal with any surprise emergencies. But a spay/neuter is a very very basic procedure. No need to even keep them overnight, really. Just keep the dog supremely calm immediately afterwards, relatively calm for 5-7 days afterwards, and from getting at the stitches, effected area. Spay/Neuter of animals is essential. It is, ultimately, the only way to humanely control what is an enormous overpopulation issue. Moreover, there are many benefits as a responsible pet owner - especially for hyper or aggressive males.
OMG, i must get that for Bo! He will go nuts. Thanks! However, we still need to walk our dogs in order to bond and thats the way to establish your pack leader. i know i'm sounding like cesar millan. it doesnt have to be everyday but you get the idea.
I agree about establishing who is the pack leader. I tend to do it through obedience and controlling when/where the dog eats. I'm a bit lazy when it comes to walking my dogs. Much of that, however, has more to do with OTHER people's dogs than mine. It's a real pain to go out with my dog who is on a leash and under control only to have someone else's dog run up to us and either try to engage my dog in play or worse, act aggressive or attack him. That's the same reason I don't like dog parks. Too many idiots who don't know how to control a dog letting them wreak havoc on those of us who are responsible/considerate pet owners. The other side of it, is the few times my dog has been bitten he bites back and I end up looking like the bad guy because of the reputation dogs like mine have. So in the end, I can't be as social as I would like with my dog but he's a joy to have around the house despite the fact that he is naturally dominant and in constant need of structure. Truth be told, after owning him I have no need or want for a "couch potato" dog ever again.
I am 50/50 on dog parks but its one of free outlets of releasing energy. I usually get a little bit nervous when we take Bo to the dog park because i dont know how other dogs are. Bo has to be on the large side because of his weight. Bo always plays nicely with other dogs but he is a puppy so he wants to play play play with other dogs. So its a little bit nerve wrecking because you dont know if today s the day that Bo will get attacked. I agree with idiots dont know how to control their dogs. I'd much rather to take Bo to the daycare two times a week but fiance says no its too much money. Oh well. What kind of dog do you have?
My girlfriend is really into dog parks. I think dog parks are a good thing except for all the stupid owners there. I have a female husky-mix and a male olde english bulldog/mastiff/pit bull mix. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=5143888&postcount=12
