If no Darius, then DerMarr Johnson , or Kerry Kittles as a stop-gap. DerMarr has a better shooting touch than Darius, but he never fills up the stat sheet even when he gets minutes. Darius Miles will give you points, rebounds, blocks, steals, assists, and most importantly a Great Defensive Weapon, something that Jeff Van Gundy can mold into what I believe is the potential for the best perimeter defender in the league. Prince is long and smart and quick, but Darius is so much quicker. His stock is at a low right now. The Rockets should get him while they can.
why arent we intrested in dermarr johnson? he is exactly what we are looking for... or should be looking for. atheletic-check tall sg-check quick-check decent shot-check we dont need a awesome shooter at this spot if we get DA, he just needs to be able to pass and drive/cut to the hoop and most importantly... play D. which he will be able to do with his athelticism, size, and jvg as his coach.
If the Rockets somehow get their hands on Miles and Stoudamire: Offensively we go 1. TMac 2. Yao 3. Stoudamire 4. Swift/Miles 5. Miles/Swift Compare that to San Antonio 1. Duncan 2. Manu 3. Parker 4. Bowen 5. Nazr I'm sorry but 1. and 2. are a dead heat. On any given night TMac and Yao beat Duncan and Manu or vice versa. 3. favors Rockets with Stoudamire. He's a much better shooter, and is every bit as effective in the paint. Parker has no 3 point shot to speak of. Stoudamire wins here 4. Bowen's one dimensional 3 point shooting versus Swift/Miles, I'm sorry but this is a dead heat and that's being generous to the Spurs. 5. Nazr vs. Miles/Swift-no contest on the Rockets side. Nazr is a garbage man and just average at that. Look at it this way: SA has 2 shooters on the floor: Bowen and Manu Houston has 2 shooters on the floor: TMac and Stoudamire SA has one low post offensive force: Duncan Houston has one low post offensive force: Yao SA has one player with the mid range game: Parker Houston has one player with the mid range game: Miles SA has one garbage man: Nazr Houston has: Swift I'm sorry but I think that lineup is better than the Spurs on both sides of the ball. How is San Antonio going to guard us? Are they going to keep Nazr on Yao and Duncan on Swift? Are they going to keep Bowen on TMac and Manu on Miles????? LOLOLOL Can you see Miles posting up Manu at the elbow extended? Can you see Bowen stopping TMac? Can you see Nazr shutting down Yao??? They gotta bring help. If they bring it from Parker, Stoudamire is gonna kill 'em. If they bring help over from Duncan on Yao, Swift is gonna kill 'em. If they bring help from Manu on TMac, that will leave Miles flying to the rim for the throw down. Can't stop it, I'm sorry. If we get Miles and Stoudamire, San Antonio is going to have make a trade or sign somebody to counter because they can't contain us.
I don't know, so I decided to do a statistical analysis. Below are Darius Miles' stats when he puts up 10+ shots in a game from last season. I'm using ESPN's shot chart and not including half court or longer shots at the buzzer. I consider 9ft and in a close range shot; 10 ft and out a jumper. I also put in paranthesis other things he did well that game. In those games he shot: 78/206 on 10 feet and out for 38% shooting 171/300 on 9 feet and in for 57% shooting 249/506 overall for 49% shooting total He averaged 16.6 points in the games he shot 10 or more times. He averaged 14 shots per game in those 36 games.
Bwahahahahahaha! And we're debating the worst part of his game. I'd take those stats/percentages from our FIFTH starter. Now let me ask you a question. Do you think his efficiency is going to be worse as the fifth starter running the floor with TMac and Stoudamire or is his efficiency going to improve running the floor with TMac and Stoudamire? How about his defense? Is it going to get worse under Van Gundy or is his defense going to improve under Van Gundy?????....??..????
The only problem I have with Miles on court games is his stupid head bang after he scores. Demonstrates immaturity. And his lack of an outside game. Can we really have two guys (Swift & Miles) not being able to shoot while T-Mac & Yao work? Those defenders will be double teaming all the time leaving only 1 shooter. Off the court he has more problems, smoking (possibily getting suspensions), getting his coach fired, an overall cancer to the team. Nice qualities. But I would prefer him to Andersen or Patterson if we needed to take one in a S&T for the Mouse.
It is overtime, detailed postings like this that are going to make you have to give this place up someday.... Gig 'em!
