Suggested FA Target: Austin Reaves

You want to be the guy who finds the Chandler Parsons, not the guy who signs him to a $100 million dollar contract

Good times. This franchise use to be the former. Look how far they've come to be the latter now.

 

How about we spend the money on a LeBron James or Anthony Davis first?? (Not literally them, but no point overpaying role players, even nice ones, when you don't have an open windows to compete)

 

I wish we could get him. He is a very skilled, smart, efficient wing. Sort of the opposite of what we've got.

 

An undrafted sophomore is better 3pt shooter than anyone on our team.

I was about to remake this with the obvious but the urge isn’t big enough…..yet

 

Just offered him an absurd amount just to cripple the Lakers.

Free agency is a month away.

 

I wish we could operate this way but there's 3 problems with that approach:

1. Star players haven't been going to free agency lately. They just re-sign with their current team and ask for a trade. The ones that go to free agency are old or have other warts.(Harden/Kyrie)
2. The rockets cap space is 'use it or lose it' and won't last forever. It's really a small window of this year and next year. Jalen and Sengun will get their rookie contract extensions and we won't have anymore cap space in the 2025 offseason and beyond.
3. If a true star was available, why would they choose the rockets? We've been the worst team in the league. The free agents we get will come because of more money and expected role on the team. We're not winning over any players with similar offers from contenders or destination cities.

I'm ok with waiting another year for the right player but next year this cap space disappears whether we want it to or not. And, maybe Reaves isn't the guy we overspend on but I'd be fine overpaying Cam Johnson to help make our Nets picks better.

 

If we do get Reaves he would automatically be both our best PG and player barring any other additions

 

Lakers seems to b down to paying him up to 100 mil.

I was really hoping we made him a max offer instead of FVV

 

could have grabbed him instead of FVV

 

Lakers got him on a very good deal, but him and FVV are no where near the same type or caliber of player.
