This is going to be one of the best World Series in a long time.

I'm with Jay. New York will take it all with four wins. [IMG]

Let me just say that I hate the Yankees with a passion.

But with that said, this is the first World Series in 7 years that I am actually genuinely excited about. It should be exciting. Could there be a "friendly" riot?

    Mets in Six!!!

as far as salery cap complaints go, i think its silly. a salery cap is not working in basketball. look at portland, LA, NY. all these teams got so much mony they dont care about cap room. and with revenue sharing it only gives a chance for owners to do nothing, loose every game, and still profit.

the big bucks will always attract the best players(they arnt stupid you know) also big media attracts players. so NY will always be good at every sport. with 17 million fans there is no doubt it is the #1 media market. hell half of you houstonites are cheering for them to win. i even saw some "my yanks" comments here. who wouldnt want to be part of that organization.

the history is attractive in boston, NY. the press is pretty good in SF, LA, atlanta NY. so who the hell wants to play in detroit. not me. who wants to live there??? not me.

the league wants to add a team im Monteray mexico. i think this is a god thing making it more of a WORLD series, but Monteray is not NY by any means. also it will atract many spanish speaking players.

what if the league allows a team in the dominican republic. they would have all the best players playing for less. be well under the cap, and un stopable.

there are tons of problem in sports. but they are ever changing. who knows how expanding the league would change things, and who knows if salary caps would work?

all i know is that this is actually exciting nationally. alot more so than the battle of the bay a few years back.

GO NY. the best city in the world!!
im gonna go see me a game or two

How can you offer blatent homerism in one sentence "NY is the best city in the world. Im gonna go see me a game or 2" and then say the series is appealing nationally? If you live in NY, how would you know how people feel in LA or Denver or Minnesota or, well, anything west of the Apple?

And the salary cap in hoops does seem to bring an element of sanity. Esp. with the maximum salaries - the Grizzlies know that they won't be outbid by the Knicks for Abdur-Rahim's services in a few years. He could leave for other reasons but not on a strictly salary basis. Have you SEEN Portland or Dallas or NY win a championship since the 70s? And by somewhat reigning in the growth in salary, we don't constantly have to hear about the championship being sold to the highest bidder. Which we will, when the Yankees beat the Mets (and then sign Manny Ramirez in the offseason).

    Voice,

The salary cap works fairly well in the NBA, but it works exceptionally in the NFL.

It's easy to be against the salary cap if you're a Dodger, Yankee, Met, Brave, etc. fan. Try being against it if you live in Pittsburgh, Montreal, or Minneapolis.

How can you say it is not working? San Antonio won in 1999 and Indiana competed for the title this yeat - both small market teams. Besides, the big markets cannot just outbid everyone like they can in Baseball, becuase there is a MAXIMUM amount anyone can offer.

...and with revenue sharing it only gives a chance for owners to do nothing, loose every game, and still profit.
I specifically excluded revenue sharing from the argument. You can have parity and fair competition without revenue sharing - just limit the amount teams can spend on players.

the big bucks will always attract the best players(they arnt stupid you know) also big media attracts players. so NY will always be good at every sport.
No they aren't stupid, but if there are rules in place that prevent one team from offering more money than another, then NY can't buy all the good players and WON't be the best at every sport (look at the NFL and the NBA). As far as I know, baseball is the only sport that NY dominates and it is purely because of the salary disparity reasons I present.

.. with 17 million fans there is no doubt it is the #1 media market. hell half of you houstonites are cheering for them to win. i even saw some "my yanks" comments here. who wouldnt want to be part of that organization.
That will always be an issue - some players will still accept less money to go somewhere that gives them more exposure, but most will go to a team that will pay them more, hence promoting parity.

the history is attractive in boston, NY. the press is pretty good in SF, LA, atlanta NY. so who the hell wants to play in detroit. not me. who wants to live there??? not me.
Cool, should we just disband all those pro franchises now then?

what if the league allows a team in the dominican republic. they would have all the best players playing for less. be well under the cap, and un stopable.
There is no cap, that is the problem. Besides, all the good domincan players would go and play for teams that would pay them more.

there are tons of problem in sports. but they are ever changing. who knows how expanding the league would change things, and who knows if salary caps would work?
Well, you'll never know unless you try something. Just because you don't know how something will turn out isn't reason enough to discard it. What we DO know is that baseball cannot survive in its present form.

all i know is that this is actually exciting nationally. alot more so than the battle of the bay a few years back.
Unquestionably it is exciting nationally, but it won't last long if it keeps happening. Seriously though, you cannot get around the fact that the winner will have "bought" the world series. Is not the sense of victory somewhat diminished?

This subway series has families DIVIDED here in the Metropolitan area. I have a friend who was asked to move out by his own dad because he was a Yankees fan and the rest of the family were Muts, er , Mets fans and their arguments were getting nastier and nastier. It's rediculous but soo fun. I expect some brawls to happen. It's gonna be war, GO YANKEES I WANT ANOTHER PARADE!funny quotes:
"Mets fans bring gloves to the game hoping to catch foul balls. Yankees fans bring bats to the game hoping to catch Mets fans."
"Yankee Stadium is full of pride, history, tradition. Shea is full of airplane fumes."
