Actually I'm full Mexican...but I understand their are laws and rules in place, and I don't find it fair that people abuse those laws and rules because of their race. We all know that a Mexican kid would never be sent home or suspended because of what he wore without it being an issue.

And I've been racially profiled my entire life without their being any kind of new law, so people complaining are just doing so because they are in need of a hobby.

American flag shirts are hideous. I don't see how waving a flag or wearing it on your body or having one of those stupid American flag pins on your suit makes you somehow more patriotic or more American. The whole concept is absolutely r****ded, to me.

That said, if wearing American flag shirts are not against the dress code, the school really has no leverage to tell them to wear them inside out. Of course, it depends on the wording of the dress code, but the idea that it's offensive is pretty stupid to me.

Could it start a fight with the Mexican-American students? Maybe, but that would be their fault for being so damned touchy about it. Wearing a shirt shouldn't make you want to beat someone up unless you did it specifically to dig at them.

Whoever got offended at this needs to grow a spine. The students are well within their rights to wear a shirt with an American flag. I doubt there would be outrage if another student wore the flag of a different country, but who knows, it's just hypothetical.

Was it smart for those kids to wear this shirt? Probably not because there are a bunch of spineless people who get offended at any notion, but that's not the fault of those students.

They look like nascent skinheads to me. Even if they're not, if they were my kids I'd wipe that smug look off their faces. Damn kids today have it too easy.

    Now, get off my lawn!

If it is made out of cloth, you are no supposed to wear it. The pins are considered replicas and can be worn, but the Act has rules about it. Of course, the Act has no penalties because any type of penalty would be a violation of the First Amendment (except at a school as SamFisher pointed out).

Anybody who is pissed off enough about this shirt to start a physical confrontation should be mentally evaluated.

They don't even throw kids out of school for wearing confederate flag shirts.
Not even during Black History Month.

I kinda doubt these 5 chaps just all coincidentally decided to wear as much USA swag as they could on the 5th of May due to a completely random outburst of love or pride for their country.

    mazyar protests against school rule.

I'm in favor of school uniforms all schools but college everywhere, throughout the country.

Kids don't have rights. They're the most restricted people. When you do give them space they do bull**** with it :)

Plus I briefly lived in the Caribbean where all the schools on the island had uniforms. They had their occassional free dress day. There's no uproar to change the law. Cuz not everyone makes a lot of money for one. And if a kid's in a uniform they're probably going to keep it neat and go straight home to change, instead of being all corny looking trying to look cool in the adult places. Which is what we WANT. You're not going to sell a beer to a dude in a school uniform. But another issue for another day

too busy at work to think now
Agree. In school I've had to change out of clothes. Got sent home cuz I didnt shave and they have a shaving policy. Sent home for having goofy hairstyles against school rules. Of course there's girls wearing their too revealing clothes. Testing the limits being a "giant disruptive douche" was an everyday duty.

That it happens to fall on Cinco De Mayo, this is bordering on mock outrage to stir up the "Are We Parents Letting Our Kids Go Astray?" thing.

I don't know, but you are a lawyer so I am sure you can come up with something or there is some lawyer who will come up with something.

I would not come up with something because I would not want to get slapped with sanctions by a judge and would want to keep my bar admission in good standing.

There should never be a wrong time to show your American flag while in this country.
