Students at Texas College 'Celebrate' MLK Day by Throwing Stereotye Party

And people wonder why white people get stereotyped as racists. It's the same reason muslims get stereotyped as terrorists.

 

imho what they did is really bad, but doesn't deserve all this attention.

 

I can see the point that some of you think their intent was not derogatory, just immature. Still, I respectfully disagree. So...

What if the people at the Texas party had their faces painted black? Nothing else different, no KKK uniforms, no nooses, just the same pictures we saw but instead some of them have black paint on their skin.

Would that put it over the line? Or is it still more along the lines of immature kids imitating black people, not intentionally in a derogatory way.

Exactly. Just because you don't want to make a federal case over a stupid college party doesn't mean your automatically a RACIST.

 

I have been to that campus for a softball touny when I was at UH, it's a real ****hole and it's dry. We drove like 45 minutes just to get beer.

I also wanted to make one more comment about the pics that MrRolo posted. As my granddad would say, the more I thought about it, the pisseder off I got.

The use of those pictures and the insinuation that someone, like myself, was defending those idiots is incredibly insulting and borderline libel. It was intentionally posted to inflame and mislead. Perhaps I have stewed about it too much but it has pissed me off incredibly.

I have met several people on this board and consider them my friends. I see something like that as a personal attack because on the surface it creates an idea of something that is absolutely not true and it could effect real life interactions.

I understand that I'm not the most politically correct person and think that sometimes people need to have a thicker skin but I never endorse hurting others. Anyway, I've said my peace and I'm done here.

Yeah the whole party seems a little too far, specifically the dress up part.

A few friends and I will have what we call "Kwanzaa Feast" at the end of the fall semester (and another with a different name for the spring) in recognition of exams.

We would get some fried chicken, cornbread, malt liquor (Colt, Country Club, Mickey's, Schlitz, etc) and watermelon for dessert.

Why?

no one here is defending that.... that is racist.

but that is not. For Us By Us.... there's a huge difference between wearing black face with a noose on your neck and wearing a shirt that says fubu. a lot of black people wear fubu, and the company prides itself on being for blacks.... so i fail to see how that is offensive.

 

Why would you admit to being ignorant?

 

I hope all the people whining about this also sent letters in to comedy central in outrage about Dave Chappele made up in white face portraying nerdy white characters, as well as protesting NBC for having Alfonso Ribeiro mocking white people as part of his Carlton Banks character.

This was a private party and the kids didn't do anything wrong. This is political correctness run amok. Get a life.
