The opening scene of that movie has Crowe's character and a couple of his associate skinheads happening to walk by 3 random asian teenagers in a Melbourne subway station. They then proceed to beat the living crap out of all 3 of them (one of them a chick) for no apparent reason. And this is one of the milder scenes in the movie. It gets more violent as it progresses! I don't know why it's a favorite of racist groups though. Almost all the skinheads end up dying by the end of the movie and those asian kids beat some serious ass. They have the skinheads running for their lives for a good part of the film
Well then, he was 37. He still stuck out like a sore thumb among all those twenty year olds. No way could I buy him as a university student. You didn't think so?
I still think that Insider one he did about the cigarette industry was his best acting performance. But all of his "intense" characters do end up feeling the same to me. No Forest Gump type roles in there.
Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, and Robert Deniro all basically play the same characters. Crow may not have the screen presence of a Nicholson or Deniro, but I think he has more versatility than any of them.
Want to hear something funny? My sister just came back from her friend's house and said that her friend's dad met Russell Crowe tonight. He was at a popular local Irish pub and Crowe was in there singing and playing guitar with Alan Doyle (from the band Great Big Sea). Apparantly, he and Doyle are good friends, and he's staying at Doyle's house while he's here visiting in Newfoundland. Just figured I'd mention this because of all the talk about Russell Crowe lately. Sort of a neat coincidence. PS: the friend's dad said that Crowe was a nice, down to earth guy. I would assume they were all pretty drunk, though.
Yeah, Deniro might be a bad example. I stand by my Nicholson and Pacino statements though. Deniro showed great versitility in Cape Fear also.
heh...I got where you were coming from...I was just being nitpicky. and since I have only seen it once, I dont remember the specifics...but was he supposed to be playing a early 20s college student? If not...what is so weird about a older person being in college? When I was 37...I was in college persuing my second career education..
I didn't say that. I said that I don't buy Crowe as a 20-year old. If he is in fact supposed to be an older guy, there should have been some explanation given in the movie. As far as I can remember, there is not.
crowe is an overrated actor who thinks he can go around being a prick to anyone he wants. someday hes gonna mouth off to the wrong guy and get his azz handed to him, that racist piece of crap. i also find it sad that there is not more outrage over this. why? cause the person was Thai? if she were black i bet u all would be boycotting crowe insted of calling him a wonderful actor.
Crowe's movies are ok, but deserves all the trouble he can get from bringing 30 odd foot of grunt and of course Russ LeRoc to us, his two ventures into what he calls music
