Man, I hate this us vs them attitude some teachers have. He's a senior and is pretty much done, why do something like this?
If he's been clearly asked and warned not to do it in the past, persisting in giving hugs gets into sexual harrassment territory. I can't judge from here if the hugs were inappropriate or if prior warnings had been clearly communicated, but it's possible that the punishment is proper depending on the answers to those things.
A more accurate title would be: "Student suspended for frotteurism." You cannot just hug people whenever you want. This teacher is on camera pushing the creep away. I am not sure how this mother expects sympathy for her son over this story.
Bad, misleading headlines? Lazy journalism? You can always count on those. If he'd been asked to stop, then the suspension is for his own good. The stakes will be much higher if he touches people when they don't want to be touched in the real world.
Rule #1. Never touch someone else without their permission. And seriously the kid looks like a total creeper. While, usually a hug is harmless, a hug is only warranted if the person is receptive to it. This dude also has a history of suspensions(nothing to do with sexual harrassment), hence why this one is so long. This lady clearly has told him once before to stop doing it, so dont understand why others are defendin his action. I dont know if punishment should be a year, but his record as a person doesnt look guilt free.

As is usually the case with these kinds of stories, I'm sure there is more to it than just the headline. But "student suspended for hugging" will probably get more clicks and garner more social media outrage, so there you go.
Hugging a teacher from behind is weird in any circumstance that doesn't involve that teacher choking on food.
It was more from the side. It does look pretty innocent in the video, but if he did indeed kiss her neck or been warned in the past, that is pretty damning.
I don't know...my wife is a teacher and I'd probably be pretty uncomfortable with a high school kid hugging her like that. Almost looks like he tried to touch her booby. And you don't hug someone from behind. His pee-pee could very well be rubbing up against her bunghole.
