hhhmmm . .. I grew up in that area and still in the area alot It is not *that* scary .. . but you do have to be Aware then again Bellaire and River Oaks are very scary to me too I guess it is what you get use too Rocket RIver then again . .I'm not White and Jewish
I have lived in the area since 1989/90 and I'm not aware of any housing projects. I am aware of A LOT of low-rent apartment complexes. is this what y'all are referring to? I do recall some super-cheap apartments across from the old Krogers off Fondren & Airport.
I do think eliminating poverty is the only way of reducing crime effectively. But I do think America has a history of violence background. For example take a country with abject poverty, like India. Why is there is no rampant streak of violent crime? I don't know. Just asking.
Do you know my cousin Bennie Brazell. I think he finished in either 2000 or 2001. My good friend Joe Davis should have finished in 97 or 98.
i should have posted that earlier, they're not even housing projects. they're just low rent apartements. you're right about the fodren/airport area. there is a problem with some of the way apartments are crammed on top of each other in some areas houston, but I don't know if you can specifically zone against that. The apartments on Antoine come to mind. but like the post above mine states, some neighborhoods just deteriorate over time
we can build a wall like this to keep them in. jk of course I envisioned it being like 400 feet high. And with barbed wire at the top.
Eliminate poverty... by just giving money away? No thanks. These people can try hard in school, go to college, and live productive lives. Or, not. It's not the rest of society's problem. Urban sprawl sucks. I wish there were some way to clean up these inner loop areas. Why can't we boot these Katrina people back to NO?
Didnt the Katrina kids get in a massive fight at Westbury on a disagreement on which Hip Hop is better, New Orleans or Houston?
Well the three most notable things that have happened at Westbury in the past year were this kid getting shot, a sexual assault in a bathroom and yes a brawl between Houston and NO students (can't remember what started it though). I find it real funny how they said the school itself is probably the safest place in the community. Umm, yeah right; despite the evidence listed above, I do remember instances of lockdowns, bomb threats, and other brawls. Not to say I was scared to go though; but it's a public high school c'mon. You go down west bellfort and west airport and its insane how many apartment complexes they stacked in that area back in the day. Too much supply, too little demand and when the ecomony turned what happened...you got low rent housing willing to lease out units to just about anyone. I've gotten lucky as I've lived on just the outisde of that mess on the city limits. Lol that was before I got my name changed to what it is today. Back then I went by jody. Doesn't ring a bell. I really didn't know too many people outside my grad class.
I went to Sharpstown High School in 1988 when there was a race riot on the last day of school. I remember police in the streets with paddy wagons and all. It was insane. Talk about a crappy high school. The next three years I went to Bellaire...transferred in. In Fondren Southwest it used to be called the "rich neighboorhood" by my friends. I lived on a street called Kittybrook. All the houses are custom and very nice. But then the slumlords bought up land and put up cheap apartments. With that came liquor stores and pawn shops everywhere. With that came nite clubs where there was a shooting everynight. I still know people that are stuck in that area since they would lose money trying to sell their home. Real sad. I pray that Sugar Land and First Colony never turns to that. I doubt it will...no metro service, and cheap apartments.
I understand you reasoning but It is society's problem Think of it like this. . .You don't give a d*mn about these kids BUT you do everything right and you kid is Mr Str8 A's and Capt of the football team Will knowing u did right by your son . . . be a comfort when this kid you didn't give a d*mn about kills him? Maybe if we give a d*mn about these kids now they won't be the killers and stealers of tomorrow An ounce of Preventation . . . . Just my thoughts on it Rocket River
Those across the street [SW Corner] got into a fire years ago and I still don't think they completely repaired. . but people still living there the Complex off the NW corner has been condemned They are beyond repair .. but they are still standing I really think the lot should be cleared at least those structures are dangerous and a place to hide and criminal activity I think a few minor changes could make major differences Rocket River
