I would only go as far back as the early-to-mid '90s, when daytime television was Monkees and The Ropers re-runs and racist Tex Avery cartoons; late night TV was Gomer Pyle and That Girl, and cable/MTV sucked balls so you didn't mind not having it.

True, but they'll never poison a water supply or vaporize a billion-dollar mortgage portfolio.

Music from 2000 on it has been a pile of crap.

My man, you speak the truth -- the 80 and 90's Rockets were just epic.

"You can get just so much from the good things. You can linger too long in your dreams. Say goodbye to the oldies but goodies, Cause the good old days weren't always good and tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems."

(but that's from 1985, so I'm not supposed to know it or remember it :) )

I've tried to not get stuck in the past, and done pretty well for the most part - keep up with current music, etc. I know a guy from my high school who hasn't changed a bit since freshman year. He spends most of his time wishing everything was like it was back in 1989. Do you want that to be your life forever - the high point of it having been firmly in your past - or do you want to move on? Just saying.

At the same time, I haven't been great about keeping up with most of the new TV shows and technology (higher end phones and game systems), but that's for time and money reasons, respectively.

For those wishing it was the good old days again, remember to complete your fantasy. Watch your cell phone, laptop, the Internet, and this bbs disappear. To look up information, you will have to go to the library and ruffle through pages, or ask around and hope someone knows. To communicate with your friends out of town, pay for expensive long distance or write letters on paper and let the post office take their time with it. Cook most of your meals from scratch. Sound like fun? I think we're all tempted to appreciate our past because it's filtered through the safety of having looked at it from a few years beyond and having survived. The immediate worries and concerns you had at the time, of not knowing what lay ahead, are not going to survive as long as the rest of the memories do, and you will mistakenly think you had no worries back then.

I am stuck in Houston Sports past...I remember Warren Moon, Kevin Bass, Akeem, etc...I have a bunch of 80's movies and music...Although I tend to agree, Journey is overrated...

However, I sure am glad for PS3's, LCD flat screens and Ipads...

Could anyone have guessed that after that damn dirty stockton hit that shot against us in the WCF that it would be 12 long years before we so much as won another playoff series?

...i'm not stuck in the past.

I do see clowns to the left of me, and jokers to the right.

so I'm probably stuck in the middle.

Not so much stuck in the past. Just not as bullish on "the future" as I used to be. Optimistic, but because time moves forward doesnt mean what we moved away from HAS to be "antiquated".

Old era elements into the new. I guess that makes me more steampunk than stuck.

    The Dream
    Earl
    The Who
    Cedeno
    Uncrowded New Braunfels
    Moon landings
    Cadet Don
Truth or Dare with Michelle and Liz

These are the things you young whippersnappers will never be able to experience in their totality yet they are all things I experienced and remember often. Hell yes, I live in the past sometimes.

I might just barely have you beat here. I quit the Astros when J.R. Richard went down. I quit the Oilers when Earl Campbell did. I quit the Rockets when they broke my heart in '81 (with a lot of help from the Celtics) and only came back for the first champ run. But though I missed about 13 years straight of Rocketball I have seen virtually every single game since 1994. Over the last couple years though, it's been harder and harder to remain interested. Especially since Les is always firing my favorite coaches. When he canned Adelman I decided he was more interested in a yes man than he was in winning and one day I might find myself saying I quit the Rockets when Rick Adelman was shown the door. To me there is not a whole lot of daylight between how Bum Phillips was treated and how Rudy/JVG/RA were.

Also, to get back on topic a bit, I'll take the Summit over the Toyota Center any day. I went to the Summit to watch basketball. When I go to the TC I spend most of my time watching all the distracting bells and whistles. I really, really hate it there. So much so that I typically turn down offers of tickets preferring instead to watch it on TV where I can focus on the game. Or, as has been the case often of late, change the channel.
