The bolded analysts are not exactly well respected on this board, or many others. They're are mere entertainers, and their opinions are just...opinions. This is a Rocket's board, I can't believe your using Charles "I'll kiss a donkey's ass if Yao ever scores 19 pts in a game" Barkley as a reference. It doesn't even matter, my point was that you hold Shaq in higher regards than Yao for the same reasons where you won't for Kobe to Tmac. Kobe's been great, goes beyond stats. He put up great games for the lakers during their championships, and is as dominant as any perimeter player has been since Jordan. He carried them past San Antonio, when Shaq completely faded away during their second championship. And don't forget all those clutch shots at the end of games. Kobe maybe an elite level prick, but he's a baller, he plays with fire and attacks relentlessly, something you can't always say about Tmac. Kobe may have be one and out in the past couple playoffs, but he played in the West, and matched up against the Suns, a top 3 NBA team. I'd say he's done far better than Tmac who played in the JV LEastern Conference, and lost to the likes of the Bucks and the Charlotte Hornets, Neither even close to a top 5-7 NBA team, and in the case of the Hornets not even close to a Top 10 team. I'm not knocking on Tmac, but don't downplay Kobe's accomplishments to make Tmac's accomplishments, or lack thereof, more glamorous. Any unbiased fan knows that Kobe is significantly better than Tmac, especially in terms of intangibles, and he has always been. It doesn't matter if Tmac put up a season of 30+ PER, he still faded when it mattered most.
Calm down guys Shaq has four rings and I believe six finals appearances, went to finals like his first or second year in the league, Yao has yet to get out of the first round. Shaq is a bully he runs over people and Yao although more aggressive shys away from contact and at times right by the rim and lays it up rather than throwing it down. His regular season stats are good, but who cares, Dirk was regular season MVP. Until Yao whens a ring, or Shaq retires he will always be number two even though stats would indicate otherwise.
Well I'm pretty sure a small bit of it is due to race, and really let's not kill him on that, we're all like that in some way or another. But I htink the majority of it is that Shaq has 4 rings and Yao has none. I'm not gonna rag on Stu for that. I can rag on him for a bunch of other stuff though lol
it seems like shaq brings his A game against yao b/c of their rivalry that was hyped up betweeen 03-04 seasons
anyone thinking shaq is the leagues best big man is in need of a brain check up............Yao, Amare, Howard > Shaq......plain and simple.
yes i totally agree with u. im sick of yao not gettin the ****in respect he deserves because hes not black and doesnt act like a jackass because he respects people unlike shaqs big dumb worthless ass. he never impressed me. the only reason he ever scored is because hes a ******.
Stu Scott is an idiot. Yao is the number one center in the league, bar none. No worries guys, Yao will resume his MVP track this year and shut this fool up.
Funny... I read the article at school today and had a conversation with the people in my high school marketing class about the top centers in the game. Everybody knows I'm the huge Rockets fan who loves Yao Ming, so they're talking about a player and then out of nowher says something like,"Ya and he would dunk on Yao Ming." Then here comes the rest of them telling me that Yao Ming has been dunked on so many times, blah blah blah. I say I dont care if he gets dunked on every once in a while because he is still the best center in the league, and they look at me like I'm crazy and all at once start telling me that shaq will dominate yao, duncan is way better(then i inform them what position TD plays). People of todays young generation don't realize how dominant Yao is, simply because he's a nice chinese guy with no hops.
The sports media can shape the image of a basketball player. These kids grew up with ESPN Sportscenter. They might never have watched one Rockets game. What they know about Yao Ming is solely from what Sportscenter chose to feed them. And everyone here knows what kind of Yao's plays would most likley be on that show. If someone dunks on Yao, 99% of chance it would be a top ten play. So what did you expect?
It's a paradox of sorts. Yao gets dunked on, is clumsy, has no hops, has short arms for his height going by NBA standards, and gets winded easily. Yet, his passing skills, sweet shooting touch, determination, quickness for his size, and intelligence make him the best center in the league today. Life's like that sometimes. Sorry, Stu. I'm surprised he hasn't pulled a bicep holding up both Reggie Bush's and Shaq's jocks.
I got to this post and laughed so hard i'm just going to post this and not read the rest of the thread.
all good points. I completely agree with you that Shaq would be totally out of shape if he didnt have all the benefits that players have these days... you think olajuwon could keep up with Wilt?
id take yao over shaq on my team any day any year. id rather have a hardworking center who people call soft, than an arrogant lazy center who has a nuggety center.
