he might need to retire because his eye really is causing him to see things that is not really happening. really isn't his fault that eye is just wondering around and he mixing all the stats on the paper up
I kind of agree with you. One of the reasons Shaq was so dominant is because he was very strong, very quick. But just try to remember, he is also very skillful. He handles the ball very well and his spinning move is just the best among all the centers who ever played in NBA.
He's just keepin it real. We all do it. We all look out for our own. The problem is that it causes you to make irrational judgments based on emotion and sentiments of kinship instead of cold hard facts, as is the case here. Anybody in their right mind takes Yao over an over-the-hill Shaq, which is what Shaq is these days.
again, i'm not 100% saying shaq is more dominant than wilt b/c i can never know that. but i've seen shaq put the BOO-YAH (word to stu) on david robinson(a pretty strong guy) -> straight up in your face facial and david had help too. the pure power of this guy is scary. that's why u see him getting double teams nearly as much as yao even when he's declining. a prime shaq => u don't don't want to guard even w/ double/triple teams. that's why kobe was never doubled when playing with shaq. wade rarely gets doubled until last yr. if tmac (orlando prime) played w/ shaq, my goodness. it would have been a sight to behold.
Yes I do know how quick and athletic Shaq was in his prime. I also know that Wilt would have likely been even more quick and even more athletic. Shaq get Wilt in foul trouble? Wilt never fouled out in a game and averaged 2 fouls a game in his career, while he was the anchor of the defense. He knew how to stay in the game, and apparently he was a dominant defender too since Russell said Chamberlain did his (Russell's) job better than Russell ever did. On the other hand Wilt would get Shaq in fouls trouble because Wilt is as strong, quicker, and more athletic, and Shaq is more foul prone anyway. I remember clearly in an interview where he said that he was not at the level of Russell and Chamberlain. He said he was trying to get to that level but he wasn't there yet. This was in 2002-2003 so it's not like he said it when he was a rookie; he was already in his prime and actually starting to decline. I blame this automatic dismissal of the 60's players on the idiotic current sportswriters who refuse to give Chamberlain and Russell credit and instead write their achievements off as achievements performed against stiffs.
Just a brother always going to back another brother. Just like all those black jurors that had OJ's back. When Shaq retires, the brothers going to overhype Dwight Howard, Greg Oden, maybe even Ericka Dampier.
Guess what they guarded Wilt with in his prime? Triple/quadruple teams and fouls worthy of being called mugging. Nobody could stop Wilt so they settled for whacking him as hard as they could. Wilt owned Russell, the greatest defensive player in history, repeatedly. He owned other HoF players too, including a young Kareem.
"that level" u talk of simply championships. u really think shaq is not better than russell. shaq said russell is the greatest center to ever play the game b/c of 11 rings. he said that out of respect. russell is great my man. but offensively he wasn't. people actually HYPE the earlier generations than now. u really think wilt and russell are gonna avg 20+ rebounds in this day and age. u think wilt is gonna score even 50 in this day and age in how defenses play big men (esp. the 90s big men era). u look at wilt's stats and u think they're overwhelming (and they are) but look at his competition back then too.
again, i don't want to get into it. it's all opinions. u have yours and i have mine. PS - shaq would own kareem and that u cannot argue.
Shaq would not own Kareem, because he can't stop Kareem at all. Kareem's moves, most prominently the sky hook, would have left him completely baffled. Size and strength isn't everything, otherwise Shaq would have crushed Hakeem. Kareem when young had all the moves and was very athletic. He might have owned an 80's Cap, but not the young athletic 70's version.
well he would . he has strength, athleticism, quickness, power over kareem. but shaq wouldn't stop kareem's main move though. but kareem would def. get in foul trouble w/ the quickness
u are referring to a shaq 2 FREAKIN' YRS into his NBA career while hakeem was a veteran, at the prime of his career, knowing all the nuances of the game. that's a great comparison my brother. u think hakeem was as smart in 86 as he was in 94? and AT THE PRIME OF HIS CAREER, he had the whole power/size/strength/atheliticism working together. sure kareem's sky hook would give him trouble but shaq can at least bother some, but how can kareem stop shaq from getting position and just dunking on him and get him in foul trouble.
It depends on if you want to consider the Bucks or Lakers version of Kareem. Bucks Kareem was unstoppable, very athletic, and worthy of GOAT consideration. Lakers Kareem was essentially an upgraded Yao Ming. I'd choose to consider the Bucks Kareem, because if we try to compare Miami Shaq he would look very unfavorable.
it's opinions. though i don't agree, i respect yours. but again, the way we're comparing big men b/t shaq and those guys and then we look today. it's a shame how the center position is getting really poor in today's generation. i feel sad. hopefully yao can just get to 50% of shaq's dominance/impact on the game in his prime and i'll be ecstatic.
I agree with this. Yao is no Shaq and if he can even reach Duncan's dominance/impact I'd be very satisfied. I don't think Amare/Dwight Howard will get there.
amare will NEVER get there. i know that for a fact. dwight MIGHT. right now, he has the power game going and he can do it b/c the centers are freakin' weak. dwight is still 22 and i'll give him 2 more yrs to see if he can add any offensive moves to his game. if not, then i agree with u that dwight will never have that dominance. but if he can, he might.
ALSO remember that in his earlier days he was playing under different rules things were much easier on centers in them there days!
