There's already a "Stro sucks because he didn't drop in 30 and grab 20 rebounds in his first game with the Rockets" thread, isn't there?
It could be worse. It could be this is all he got to show for over achieving, meaning you can't teach a r****d rocket science.
Howard looked worse? If you've ever watched a basketball game before that remark is inexcusable no matter who you'd rather start.
So are you basing this on the one regular season game? He had some good post moves in the preseason, and I have seen him drain the outside shot with Yao guarding him in years past. Juwan looked like the worst player in nba history the first few games of last season...just give him a month or so before making sweeping generalizations about his game.
It's the first game man! He's still learning the system. Not like playing for Van Gundy is easy. Learning the system of a great coach is going to take a little bit. For him, it is kinda like being a rookie, new team, new system, new arena, new everything. Fans like this annoy the heck out of me. Same people that were ready to trade Yao after his bad first career game at the Pacers. Last time I checked the season was 82 games long, not 1! Maybe we should give him a chance to prove himself and not overreact to one freaking game. If were going to overreact to one game, we mine as well put Jon Barry in the starting lineup too huh? Patience my man, patience! Oh and the Chronicle, they were the same ones who said the Astros were dead on June 1st, they're always right on! Brian
How did Yao look in his first game here? Seriously, this is idiotic. Give him some time. Oh, and the line, "Currently I put Stromile as about equal to Ryan Bowen as a pf, though he looks much better while running and jumping as long as he doesn't have the ball. I'm wondering if he will ever be able to fill the shoes of even Kelvin Cato," has some serious Classic Moment potential.
3 things I want Stro to do....... 1. Facialize Dirk 2. Stuff Dirk crap into the 5 row. 3. Drop JOsh Howard on his ass. I hope we face them again in the playoffs
The kid admitted he played like he was brain-dead out there. Lets give him a few more weeks before we come to the conclusion on whether he is a bust or not.
I'm amazed at how many of you still want him to start. That would be crazy. You are living in a dreamworld and refuse to acknowledge reality. Get over it and wake up! You can't start someone who has brainlock and doesn't know what he's doing. Hopefully he will play his way into the starters role, but if not, so be it. He is what he is after 5 NBA seasons. And a few of you want to judge him strictly on this one game. Let's be reasonable. Fact: Stro will improve, become a rotation player and get 20+ minutes . The only way Bowen will continue to get minutes is if someone gets injured or the team never gels.
Its not one game its five seasons. this guy will give you great games and he will give you bad games. that's his M.O. I doubt it will change.
what's worse about posts like these is it's started by people who've been on this board at least 5 FREAKIN' years and 4,500+ post counts. granted, post counts aren't indicative of how intelligent one is, but being a basketball fan this long one should know better. IT'S THE FIRST FREAKING GAME OF THE SEASON!!!! Stromile didn't even start....geez.
This thread reminds me of the guys who kept arguing that MoTaylor would start rebounding one day, right up until the point they finally shipped his over paid butt out. Stro is inconsisitent. He just is, that's the reason he didn't get a lot of playing time in Memphis. You don't think Memphis could have used him on the court with Pau? They have two totally different skill sets and they compliment each other but Stro never provided consistency.
Swift is inconsistent, as are all role players, which is what Stromile Swift is and is what the Rockets knew he was when they signed him. David Wesley is inconsistent, Juwan Howard is inconsistent, Jon Barry is inconsistent, hell, even Yao is inconsistent. The only player that I expect to have a good/great game every game is Tracy Mcgrady. Now when Swift consistently plays bad for like a month or two, then I’ll start to worry.
Ditto, this is reminding me of last years fire JVG thread at the start of the season. 2 months down the road will be a better time to see how Stros doing
I actually expects Yao to have a good game every game this season, his first game is just a norm with more to come IMHO. This is Swift's first game with the Rockets, I think many were expecting too much after a long off-season that was why it was such a let down. Even if some of you might be right, I'd say give him more games before putting the knife in. -G'day-
I found Stro's propensity to go for pumpfakes disturbing. That's different from missing a rotation, which can be blamed on being in a new system. That said, he was probably pretty jacked up in anticipation of his debut. That probably caused him to try to overplay on defense, hoping for a highlight block every play. So, definitely cause for concern, but don't overreact. Also, the people who were expecting Stro to be an immediate 15/10/4 type player hopefully got a wake-up call. He's got incredible talent, but his game is still very raw.
Umm....this is a bit unrealistic. Yao is human and he's capable of having bad days. Even the best (Jordan, Bird, Magic, TMAC) have off days where nothing seems to go right. If you honestly believe Yao will perform 20/10 every game for 82 games + post season, you're in a for some disappointment.
well by that same token, Yao will have nights (many IMO) where he will exceed expectations and that 20/10 mark and it's surely not unrealistic to think that he could average 20/10 throughout an 82 game season.
I think you probably mis-understood me, I was refering to New Jack's post. Since I believe Yao has improved this season, a stat line of 20/10 (which I consider as a good game) is to be expected every game, but obviously it will fluctuate up and down. -G'day-
It seemed to me that Sto looked a bit lost, which is to be expected for a young raw player in a new system. I also think he got out-muscled inside. He has a lot to learn. There did not seem to be a lack of effort though - so that's hopeful.
