I'm with you, the guy got traded back to the team he wanted to get away from and he had the class to NOT talk bad about The Rockets after everything was said and done.. I just don’t get all the hate for the guy, why Boo him at games like many of our fans do??
Let's see what Stro does over the next 20-30 games. 2-3 doesn't show anything. The problem is Stro cannot put a sustained effort on the floor over the course of a whole season. Over the long haul, he will revert back to being a 10/5 player. Most players don't bust out in their 7th season. Another likely event is he will get dinged and miss some games. Then his supporters can says "if he didn't get injured..." blah blah blah. Put it in the bank. Stro is not talented, does not have much potential and after 6 full seasons he is a known quantity. The Grizz will trade him in a heartbeat for a bag of french fries when they get an offer. Then Stro's supporters can blame a trade and the new coach for his fall in production. There is always an excuse.
Anyone who gets repeatedly juked by the Juwan Howard in the same game is never going to accomplish much. If Memphis tries to become Phoenix-lite they're not gonna go anywhere.
Just give him some more time to prove that he is... (as the 2nd player chosen in the 2000 draft) still a bust.
the real story last night is the 144-135 sore in regulation. mike miller went crazy with 9-12 from the 3 point line.
Stromile is what he is - a profoundly talented big man with the physical tools to wreck havoc in the league but a basketball IQ in the teens and a heart the size of a walnut. Stromile defenders only see his potential and his stunning rim attacks and Stromile bashers are largely former Stromile defenders that have bittered watching him continually demonstrate that he has little interest in being the player everyone knows he could be. This is Stro's 7th year in the league. His stats after his rookie year have been nearly identical: 10 pts, 5 boards. To claim JVG mangled Stromile when he averaged 9 and 4.5 is pretty silly. He had the same kind of year that he had under each of his coaches in Memphis. To another issue, yes, you can get high blocks (or steals) and not be a good defender. Weak side blocking is nice, but it is a gamble for a highlight. There's no stat for quick defensive rotations (Stromile is awful at this) or boxing out (that too) or preventing your man from getting good post position (and that). You're excited about Swift's last 3 games and feel he's turning a corner under a "coach that knows how to use him." He had two games where he tacked up 13 and 15 points, and then got 26 last night in a defenseless contest that the Griz managed 144. I wouldn't hold my breath. He managed a few 20-point games for us too. I'll repeat what I said when we first signed him to the MLE and the BBS went nuts: Stromile is what he is. Evan
Someone else's stats in their last 3 games: points per game - 17 shooting percentage - .548 rebounds per game - 10.33 blocks per game - 0.3 minutes per game - 34.7 Not quite as good, but awfully similar, huh? Stromile just slightly edging in all categories but blocks (big lead)? That's Juwan Howard's. Evan
i always though he could average at least 15 ppg game, even with the rockets. His stats were never very good cause he didnt get much playing time. He usually averages about 10 ppg but only about 20 minutes per game. If he were to play 30 minutes consistently, he will definitely continue at this pace.
That will help more than just Stro! Matt Barnes might get another crack at ringing up 36 against him, Juwan 22, and Jorge Garbajosa 15! Just think what might happen when his rotating door defense meets Tim Duncan! Start taking your bets on how many points Ryan Gomes and Al Jefferson manage to tally up against him tomorrow night! Evan
Ok, so 3 decent games means he finally reached his potential? HAHA, sorry I don't buy it yet. Let's see him keep it up for the whole season and we'll talk. Until then, this is just another bash JVG thread in disguise. I was one of the few Stro Supporters but he just never stepped up his game and he had all the chances in the world. But until Stro keeps playing like this, which I doubt, I have no regrets in trading him.
For some, apparently it does. He's sucked for his career, but man, those 3 games wipe entire years-worth of underachieving, but if we're going by 3 game stretches, Stromile was awesome last season with JVG for a 3 game stretch from 12/28-1/03 (wow, oddly enough about the same time period - maybe this is how Stro parties to ring in the New Year?). His stats during that period : 32 mpg 18.7 ppg 11.3 rpg .3 blocks 57.1 FG% Yes, that's right folks, as hard as it is to believe, Stromile's career breakout point was with JVG. Go JVG!
LOL. He got 13 and 15 pts in his first 2 games. The 3 game average is distorted by a shootout with the Golden State Warriors where he got 26 points.
Stro's basketball skills are very raw. He should feel embarrassed because he has been in the league for several years. So obviously he is too lazy to improve himself during the off-season and I bet he rarely studys tapes.
Seven years and 4 coaches. Yao was a long term-project. Stromile is just a bust.Stromile will not be over 15 ppg. I can see 14ppgs due to the increased tempo, but seeing him go for 15-20 ppg is stretching it.
I agree with most everything here except that Stro is anything but "profoundly talented". He's flatlined it since his rookie year becasue he's too lazy to develop any further. His only talents are dunking the ball and blocking shots on help defense. Nothing profound about either of these.
Has Stro really had bad coaching? Hubie Brown Jeff Van Gundy Mike Fratello Tony Barone <-- Wasn't this guy A&M's basketball coach?
