I don't equate taking every side of the argument as "taking a chance."

You basically put yourself in a position to where you're "never wrong", even though we all know that's not the case. ;)

Regardless... I think people stopped taking you seriously awhile ago... which is a shame since you do sometimes bring some valid points up (but it gets lost in the rest of the hyperbole after every loss, or every v-span thread, or every JVG thread, or every Boki thread, or every Stro thread, or every Carr thread, or every Lidge thread, or every...). :D

he probably was .0000000012 % overweight so Riley probably backed out at the last minute.

Anyone who stopped taking me seriously is silly. I am as passionate a fan as anyone.

I don't mind people who disagree, that is the point of this BBS....

And the fact that I take stands on just about everything means I will be wrong from time to time...but let's review your list..shall we.

V-Span - I think he will be good...time will tell if I am right or wrong.

JVG - I have consistently said I like a lot about him but question whether he is a championship coach...so far, I am right about him, but would love to be wrong.

Boki - It is looking more and more like I was right all along about him.

Stro - I got excited when we had him as did most everyone, including you Nick.....we were all wrong about him.

Lidge - He had a rough year, and I hope he bounces back, but ultimately his struggles last year significantly hurt the team - I was right about him too.

See - I am right a lot more than wrong....but due to my prolific posting nature, a lot of it gets lost in the wash.

The main point is that I am a passionate fan, and I do come here and vent....but no one should question my passion about my sports teams.

And if they are avoiding my posts - they are the ones missing out on some serious knowledge.....

    :D

Everyone's wrong plenty of times - but when someone makes a very very very big deal about an opinion that is black & white and does so anytime the subject comes up...well, the person becomes the face everyone wants to throw pie on when the opposite take is borne out over time.

I recall the hellstorm over the Rockets being fools to let Posey leave for the MLE, the overrating of both Derek Anderson and Stromile the offseason they arrived, the continued overrating of Stro during the season and during his departure. A lot of times, the vast majority of this board is dead wrong. The trick is to be open-minded in all the discussions and realize that the potential of a player does not often come to full fruition...

Nobody's questioning the passion... its the claim of "serious knowledge" that gets lost in the venting, prognosticating, flip-flopping, and back-tracking.

I'm too lazy to look it up... but Stromile was supposed to explode for the uptempo Grizz, according to you. Many wrote it off as a 3 game anomaly and that his lazy nature would still be the death of him... but we still heard the whispers that he is perfect for this system (or the Suns system).

Now, its finally deemed that he is mentally weak... a stance that a ton of people (including myself) realized by watching him for a quarter of a season (or the 2 weeks he was out with "pink eye").

In the past two months (easily the best two of his career)
    6 games with 15+ points
12 games in single digits or shut out
2 games all season with 20+ pts

He's definitely having the best season he's had since being traded to NOK, but his ceiling appears to be a 4th or 5th option role player, and best suited to come off the bench given his poor defense. He's shown that given good minutes he can get comfortable enough to make good on his poor man's Toni Kukoc impression, but both times that has happened, it's been with an injury-ravaged team below 0.500.

    Right and wrong.

Right, Stro doesn't have the mental makeup to play hard every day. Wrong, he isn't wasting talent because he has very little talent to waste. All he can do is jump and he usses that "talent" to block shots, usually while leaving his man and helping out.

I am so glad we traded Stro. Wish we could have got another player like Atkins for him but at least I don't have to hear "he has been a huge disappointment for the Rockets" from every broadcast team in the NBA this year.

I like hearing "the Battier trade was a great trade for Houston" instead.

I dont believe I have seen a professional sports writer/talking head yet say different once Shane showed whatr he could do for us.

granted, I dont normally take many of the talking heads seriously since I dont need them telling me what is good and bad since I have eyes and knowledge of at least Dakota's level { :p DD ) but since their opinions match waht I believe I guess Ill at least give them credit for being smart enough to recognize it also.

Dak, you honestly dont see what DoD and the others are saying to you?

you are supposed to be smarter than that, the evidence is obvious, just man up and admit it and lets move on.

This just confirms that Swift has negative trade value. Now I feel a lot better that the Battier trade was really a fair trade.

Oh I get it....I admit I was wrong about Stro....I thought all he needed was a better system and a coach to give him some positive reinforcment...

That is hardly true....I was wrong about Stro & Langhi to name a couple....

And the serious knowledge comment was meant tongue in cheek....I know I rub some people the wrong way.

I wish that they could just look past the rubbing and actually argue their side of it rather than getting presonal....but Que cera cera.

From what I have read Swift has two years left at about 6 mil per year. He does not fit in Riley's plans, but he really doesn't have a bad contract for a decent backup 5/4.

Swift also gave us, 9-5-1 in 20MPG, what we should have expected because that is what he was doing for Memphis a number of years before.

So for the record the Swift signing was fine (if you look at the time of the Rockets landed him I believe Walker, Donyell Marshall and SAR were the other viable PFs) and Swift was not a bad contract/negative asset for us prior to the Battier trade. Swift wasn't a star asset--but remember Memphis wanted him over Juwan. We traded two assets, a good back-up 4/5 (with 3 years MLE level money left) and the 8 pick (turned into Rudy Gay for Mem) for Battier.

Still would have liked to squeze Memphis pick (my choice would have been Farmar, they took Lowry) from the deal but Battier's positive impact on the team right now is undeniable.

Stromile Swift is a total waste of talent. Imagine if he had half the heart and work ethic of Chuck Hayes. He'd be an All-Star by now. Instead, he's still the same player that he was as a rookie.

I'm glad Memphis wanted Stro over Juwan. Another mistake by St. Logo.

It is certainly better for us to have Juwan. But from Memphis perspective not obviously a mistake-- Juwan is older (34 to 27) and has one more year on a higher priced yearly base salary. I am glad we have Howard, but I would have done the same thing if I were him last offseason, or today.
